April is Earth Month!
So far only 150 individuals have signed up for Council Member Cisneros' Rain Drops & Laptops Giveaway to receive a free laptop computer and a free rain barrel. Council Redistricting & CIP Town Hall Meeting on April 7th
The City is holding a series of Town Hall Meetings to receive public input about redistricting and to share information about Capital Improvement Projects. The District H Town Hall will take place on Thursday, April 7th, in person at Moody Park Community Center, as well as virtually on Microsoft Teams. 
Details about the redistricting process can be found on the Planning and Development Department’s website and in this committee presentation. Please view page 9 of the presentation to see what the 2020 Census determined current populations of all Council Districts to be, and why District H will need boundary adjustments to come into compliance.

Joe Campos Torres Plaza Dedication this Saturday
Please join us this weekend in confronting racism, justice and equity, and remembering and honoring Joe Campos Torres. This Saturday, April 2nd, the City of Houston will commemorate his life with the dedication of a new plaza, and a portion of the trail along Buffalo Bayou in his name.
The ceremony will be followed by a celebration featuring music by Tejano legend, Little Joe Y La Familia. View the flyer here.

Easter Celebration in Port Houston
Neighbors in Action is hosting an Easter Celebration on April 9th in Port Houston. The event runs 11am-2pm and will feature food, crafts, bounce house, face painting, and an Easter egg hunt. Visit the Neighbors in Action Facebook page for more details.

CIGNA Sunday in the Park at Montie Beach
Cigna's Sunday in the Park will be held at Montie Beach Park on April 10th. There will be live music, games, dancing and fun activities for the whole family. The Houston Health Department will be onsite to administer COVID-19 vaccinations for those 12+.

Vision Zero Distracted Driving Documentary
Sidetracked, a 23-minute documentary produced by HPD in partnership with AAA Texas will be shown this morning (3/31/2022) at Hermann Square lawn in front of Houston City Hall. The film is part of Vision Zero Houston’s initiative to save lives by eliminating distracted driving. See the trailer here.

COVID-19 Vaccinations & Boosters
The FDA has approved a second booster shot for immunocompromised people and those over 50 who received their first booster at least four months ago. The Houston Health Department will soon be offering the second booster at its sites. Visit the Houston Health Department website for up to date information about testing and vaccinations.
Housing and Community Development Department
The Housing Department is hosting virtual community meetings to hear from Houstonians about their housing and community needs. The meetings will include a presentation of the Draft 2022 Annual Action Plan, and an opportunity for public comment.

Hurricane Season Preparedness Grant Workshop
The City's Housing and Community Development Department is looking for partners from the community to promote hurricane preparedness and fair housing in Houston. Selected applicants will receive up to $10,000 of grant funding. There will be a virtual workshop on April 7th to review the grant requirements and application. Grant applications are due May 6th. HPD Northeast Station's Egg-stravaganza
The Houston Police Department's Northeast Patrol Station is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt and "Egg-stravaganza" on April 8th. There will be snacks, games, inflatables, and age-grouped egg hunts for children.

35th Annual Art Car Parade
The Houston Art Car Parade is back! Come celebrate the 35th anniversary of Art Car Parade Weekend from April 7-10, 2022. The parade itself is Houston's largest free public event and will take place on Saturday, April 9th from 12pm-4pm. Parade details here link.
