It's Summer Jobs Season!

Build Your Workforce!
TechConnect Summer Interns are needed to work with youth at District H parks. The TechConnect summer program will run July 5-August 5. The internship is a leadership opportunity and resume builder for high school and college students. Preference given to applicants who reside in District H. Learn more and apply here.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is hiring over 200 lifeguards to work at city pools this summer. Pay starts at $13/hr and water safety training is provided. Call 832-395-7129 for more information or click here to view job listing and submit an application. View pool locations here.

Hire Houston Youth, which provides paid summer jobs and internships to youth, age 16 – 24, has extended its application deadline to April 8th. Register on the HHY website here and view summer positions in many industries and organizations, including District H's TechConnect Program.

Free Art Day this Saturday in Eastex-Jensen
This Saturday, HTX ART and The Cristina Project are hosting "Give A Bag, Get A Bag," a free art day for children. Kids will decorate bags for Kids Meals, after which they are invited to board the HTX ART BUS and fill a bag with free art supplies to enjoy over Spring Break. Click here for more info.

Health and Family Event in Near Northside
Several organizations have partnered to host a free, day-long event at Irvington Village that promotes women's health and family resources. The International Women's Health and Family Fun Extravaganza will offer COVID and shingles vaccinations, diabetes and blood pressure screenings, as well as voter education, entertainment and refreshments. Volunteer Clean Up Day at Historic Cemetery
Mark your calendars for the Volunteer Clean-Up Dat at Historic McDaniel Street Cemetery in Eastex-Jensen. Volunteers will pick up trash and small branches in the cemetery, and clean grave markers. There will be refreshments.  See flyer and register here.

Equity in Houston: Share your Thoughts
The city has launched The Equity Indicators project and is seeking feedback from community members to ensure that this project is reflective of Houston's diversity and multiculturalism. Learn more about the project here and visit houstontx.gov/equity to share your thoughts.
The survey is open between March 6 until April 2.
Fix a Leak Week Virtual Workshops

Free Spay/Neuter Services at BARC
BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is partnering with Friends For Life, SNAP, Emancipet, Houston Humane Society and others to reduce pet overpopulation and promote pet wellness in targeted areas of Houston. BARC's Healthy Pets Healthy Streets initiative offers Houston residents free spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, microchip, and City of Houston license. You must live within the City of Houston limits. NeighborhoodLIFT Funds for Homebuyers
The Houston NeighborhoodLIFT program offers homebuyer education plus $15,000 for eligible homebuyers to use toward down payment and/or closing costs on qualified homes. Requests for funds can be submitted each week from 9:00 a.m. on Thursdays until 9:00 a.m. on Mondays, as long as funds are available. Visit this website during those times to submit a request for funds.
HPD Central Patrol Community Liaison
Officer Vieira is the Community Liaison for the Central Division, which covers parts of District H (click here to see HPD map). She can be contacted about neighborhood issues such as abandoned vehicles, homeless camps, and illegal trash dump sites.
