New City Council Subcommittee to Focus On Connection
Between Education & A Strong Workforce
As chair for City Council's newly formed Economic Development Subcommittee on Education, Council Member Cisneros invites all interested parties to attend the subcommittee's kickoff meeting on August 8, 2018 in City Council Chambers at 2 pm . Mayor Turner will give opening remarks, followed by a presentation by Rice University's Founding-Director of The Kinder Institute for Urban Research, Professor Stephen Klineberg. A networking reception will be held in the Legacy Room from 3-3:30 pm immediately following the subcommittee meeting. Click here to learn more.
Council Member Cisneros Presents A District H Resource Fair
Join Council Member Cisneros for another District H Resource Fair she's hosting at  St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Saturday, August 25th from 10 am to 1 pm  . In addition to educational presentations, there will be attorneys, consulates, health care providers, education and child-care providers, banking services, housing & repair services, non-profits, and more present to share info with the community. FREE End of Summer Day Camps at Moody Park August 10th

The Houston Parks Board and Houston Parks & Recreation Department are teaming up with the Wade Smith Foundation to host "Smitty's Day at the Park" , a free camp to service students grades K-6 or ages 5-12 which includes hands on instruction from NFL players, veterans, college athletes, coaches, professional cheerleaders, local children's book authors, musicians, and artists. This year, National Night Out (NNO) takes place on Tuesday, October 2nd in Houston. Avenue-GO Neighborhoods provides grants to civic clubs, apartment complexes, and community groups in the Near Northside and Northline so they can host their own NNO events for members and neighbors.
