Redistricting Public Comment Period Ends this Friday
The public comment period for the proposed City Council Redistricting Plan ends Friday, July 29th at 4:45 PM.

Email redistricting comments, suggestions, and alternate plans to Rupesh Koshy at rupesh.koshy@houstontx.gov. View the comment criteria here.

The City of Houston's Proposed Redistricting Plan is available to view on the City’s website at www.letstalkhouston.org/redistricting. Revised plans will be presented to City Council sometime in August, and are anticipated to be considered on the Council Agenda on September 14th.
Council Member Cisneros encourages everyone to review the proposed District H boundaries here.

Applications are now open for the Afterschool TechConnect Internship Program. The Afterschool TechConnect Program runs Mon-Thurs, from mid-September through mid-May at District H Park Recreation Centers.

TxDOT Public Meeting TONIGHT: I-10 from Heights Blvd to I-45
TxDOT is proposing a project to elevate the existing main lanes along I-10 from Heights Blvd to I-45, above the White Oak Bayou floodplain. You can view a narrated virtual presentation and more information here.
An in-person meeting TONIGHT will consist of the same narrated presentation by the project team, project exhibits, and an opportunity to comment.

Second Ward Super Neighborhood 63 Meeting 
Community members are invited to the Second Ward Super Neighborhood 63 General Meeting on August 1st. Featured speakers include Jack Hanagriff, Coordinator and Rail Safety and Mobility for the East End District, and Judith Cruz, HISD Board President. The meeting will be held in person and virtual. Harris County Constable Precinct 6's National Night Out
Harris County Constable for Precinct 6, Silvia Garcia, is hosting National Night Out on August 2nd. Bring friends and family for a night of free food, games, raffles, and more!

METRORapid University Corridor
Take a virtual tour and see the 3D animated video of what the METRORapid University Corridor will look like as it passes through Second Ward and the Northside. The actual alignment of the route and its various stops are subject to change as the design is finalized. Segments 4 & 5 are located in District H and appear in the video during the time ranges listed below.

The 23.5 mile line would operate in a dedicated, transit-only lane to move through traffic. The Corridor begins at the Westchase Park & Ride and ends at Tidwell Transit Center.

Fresh Start Resource Fair this Saturday
Fresh Start is a second-chance program that aims to support eligible adults and youth who were previously incarcerated.

The Harris County Criminal Misdemeanor Courts are partnering with several organizations to host a resource fair this Saturday. Get help with jobs, immigration, education, and sealing your criminal record. There will also be a school supply giveaway, enhanced library cards, and Covid vaccines.

Mayor Turner Announces 'Liftoff Houston'
Liftoff Houston is the City of Houston's annual business plan competition. It is an entrepreneurial initiative that aims to empower Houstonians with business literacy education and mentorship to start their own businesses while contributing to the local growth and sustainability of the Houston economy. It is sponsored by Capital One Bank, which provides cash prizes totaling $30,000. Learn more here.

Mayor's Gun Buyback Event this Weekend
Maybe you inherited a gun that you don't want, or maybe you have a young child and no longer want to have a gun in your home.

Mayor Sylvester Turner is partnering with County Commissioner Rodney Ellis to reduce the number of guns in Houston and are hosting a No-Questions-Asked Gun Buyback Program this weekend.

Last Weekend for Free Pet Adoptions at BARC
This weekend is the last chance to take advantage of waived adoption fees. The program, sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation's Summer National #EmptyTheShelters, ends on Sunday, July 31st.

Visit BARC's adoption center located at 3300 Carr St. from 12pm - 5pm to adopt a new furry friend. View pets available for adoption here and those needing a foster home here.
