Love Your Pet Kids' Fest and Pet Pantry THIS SATURDAY
The Love Your Pet Kids' Fest, postponed in February due to weather, will take place this Saturday, May 21st at Settegast Park in Second Ward. There will be family-friendly activities and animal meet-and-greets, as well as a walk-up Pet Pantry, offering free pet food and supplies to pet owners. View flyer here. We hope to see you there!

Primary Runoff Election: Early Voting & Election Day
Early voting is underway in the primary runoff election, for races that were undecided in the March 1st primary election. Runoff winners will become their party's pick for the November general election. Voters can cast ballots at any polling location in Harris County. Check your voter registration status here.
When: Early Voting: May 16-20th / Election Day: May 24th, 7am-7pm

Important Update on City Pools
Summer is quickly approaching and, unfortunately, many City pools will remain closed due to staffing shortages. The pools that do open will operate on a modified schedule (T, Th, Sa/W, F, Su). More pools will open if additional staff is hired; please spread the word or apply yourself! The City is offering a $300 hiring bonus for successful lifeguard candidates. Learn more here.
Community Advocacy Virtual Workshop
Houston LISC and Avenue are partnering to put on a Community Advocacy Workshop as part of their Leading Together series. The workshop will be presented virtually, in both English and Spanish, and will discuss tools for community building and engagement. Register here. All are welcome!

Vivid: Arts and Cultural Exhibit in Near Northside
Vivid: Arts and Cultural Exhibit is taking place this Saturday at Elevate Creative Studios. 2100 Memorial Groundbreaking
This week, the City of Houston broke ground on the reconstruction of a senior community at 2100 Memorial Drive. The new development replaces the building that was flooded during Hurricane Harvey. Residents who lived at this property before the storm will be given the first chance to move into the 197-community unit. Learn more about the groundbreaking here.
Community Mental Health Wellness Event in Independence Heights

Save the Date: Art in the Heart Grand Opening

Urban Strategies is opening a new Early Head Start program for children ages 6 weeks-3 years. Free Trauma Training for Caregivers
The Mayor's Office of Education and the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) have partnered with Texas Children's Hospital to host a free Children's Trauma Care Training focused on supporting youth who have had adverse childhood experiences and/or traumatic backgrounds. Free Legal Resources Available through A Month of Service
A Month of Service is a partnership of programs offering free legal information and resources. In addition to a Will Clinic, there are several other workshops during the month of June with topics such as home buying, child custody, debt management, and more. HPD Spotlight: D.A.R.T. Program
The Houston Police Department's Domestic Abuse Response Team (D.A.R.T.) was recently expanded within the City's One Safe Houston initiative. D.A.R.T. pairs victim advocates with trauma-informed officers to respond to reports of domestic violence. Teams provide trauma-informed care and provide on-scene crisis intervention, such as emergency shelter, food, and other community-based resources. BARC Celebrates National Rescue Dog Day
BARC will celebrate National Rescue Dog Day by reducing adoption fees from May 20-22. Adopt a dog (five months or older) for only $10! The public is encouraged to stop by BARC’s Adoption Center at 3300 Carr St. from 12 – 5 p.m or visit their website here to see all adoptable pets online.
