November 1st-3rd: Preserving Historic Communities
Featured in yesterday's Chronicle , Preserving Communities of Color conference is a national platform for advancing the preservation of historic communities established shortly after the Civic War by people of African descent. Held in Houston this year, the conference will spend its last day in District H with a festival in Independence Heights . Click here for more info on the conference. Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries

Checking Kids for Lead Poisoning
Do you have a child under between 6 months and 6 years old and also live in a house built before 1978? Your child may have been exposed to lead. There is no safe level of lead exposure and lead poisoning affects a child's ability to learn . The City of Houston's Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP) provides blood lead testing, community outreach, environmental investigation, and case follow-up for children who qualify.
