District K Friends,

Happy Spring! I love spring for so many reasons, including more daylight, amazing weather for opening the windows, flowers blooming, green grass and the sun lifting my mood. I hope you are enjoying these beautiful spring days too.

Last month I delivered our 2021 State of the District address. It's important to me that all of our residents see the "BIG" picture of District K. During the address I introduced 2 programs. MPAC- Martha's President Advisory Council and the Kudos Award which is our District K recognition program. You can learn more about these programs by watching the State of the District Address here. If you were unable to watch on March 31st, you will also hear from several community leaders and learn more about upcoming projects and plans for District K. The answers to the questions submitted during registration of the State of the District virtual event will be sent out soon.

In the meantime I hope you are noticing the improvements happening on the streets, sidewalks and esplanades and in your neighborhoods. I'm proud to say we have over 45 drainage, street repair, and beautification projects happening simultaneously throughout our community. I will continue to advocate for the improvements needed in District K. If you have specific concerns in your neighborhood, email me and let's see how we can work together to solve the problem. If your neighborhood group is meeting virtually, let us know, I'd love to join your meeting. As always, do not hesitate to call us or reach out via email. Be kind and take care of each other!

-Martha

District K Business Owner to Chair Office of Business Opportunity Advisory Board
Congratulations Brandi Harleaux of South Post Oak Recycling! City Council unanimously supported Mayor Turner's appointment of the Office of Business Opportunity Advisory Board on March 24, 2021. District K's own, Ms. Brandi Harleaux, Chief Operations Officer for Post Oak Recycling Center, will serve as this year's board chair. She has served on the OBO Advisory Board since 2018. Before becoming successor to her 25-year old metal recycling company, Harleaux worked as a strategic leader and consultative talent management and organization development executive within highly matrixed and complex Fortune 500 companies.

“As a business owner, I realize and see the need and value of the OBO department within the City of Houston,” Harleaux said. “I look forward to getting the ball rolling in collaboration with the rest of the Advisory Board as we focus on short, medium, and long term goals in supporting the Mayor’s Office of Business Opportunity.”
