Breast Cancer Awareness

Our salute to breast cancer survivors in the community was so refreshing! This was our inaugural event and I’m ready to do it again. We can never grow tired of reminding our loved ones of the importance of early detection. Lyndsay Levingston the founder of SurviveHer, Mitzi Henderson of Namitzi Yoga and I wanted this experience to invigorate and encourage survivors, caregivers and supporters.

Thank you Houston Health Department and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for your sponsorships and thank you to every participant that dedicated time to improving your health and wellness. I was reminded of the importance of MAKING time for exercise and healthcare. I love yoga and need to do more of it. Fire Station 48 Gets a Makeover!

Thank you GSD for the fresh coat of paint at Fire Station 48 near the new Dr. Shannon Walker Neighborhood Library. A couple of months ago a few residents asked if we could paint the station since it sits next to our new, highly anticipated library. Tis the Season to Recycle in District K!

I know many of you have already started decorating for the holidays. If you have holiday lights that aren’t working let’s recycle them at South Post Oak Recycling Center. The bins are available through January of 2024.

It’s important to know that you should not get rid of your holiday lights by throwing them in the trash or recycling bin. Christmas lights are composed of different materials — like glass, metal, and plastic — that can be recycled. Additionally, the materials found in many bulbs and strands contain elements that don’t decompose in landfills.
