Woodbury Visual Design Preference Survey Report
The District and facilities design team would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to respond to the Woodbury Campus Design Visual Preference Survey. Shaker student leaders rallied their fellow students to deliver a strong response. And, a diverse cross-section of residents responded as well. The survey’s final report highlights the unanimous exterior design preference for the new Woodbury Campus building. Click here to review the summary report!
Woodbury Campus Design Evolves in Advance of Next FAC Meeting
As the design team wraps up the “Schematic Design” or “SD” phase of the Woodbury Campus project, the community will start to see images of the exterior “massing” of the new portions of the Woodbury Campus and how it will connect to the 1918 building. Following the completion of the massing design studies, the architecture team will prepare “elevations” of the building’s exterior to show roof lines, window and door placement, material selections, among other design features. More visually-realistic images or “renderings” will follow this step in the design process.
There are many interdependent tasks that bring this project to life. At the January 14 Board of Education meeting, the project team presented the 30-60-90-day schedule and major milestones for January, February and March. Upcoming activities in January include the design team’s monthly project team meeting with representatives from the City’s Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and Architectural Board of Review. This meeting will solicit feedback on the current design from City experts. An updated design will be shared with the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) for feedback on February 3.
Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) Meeting on February 3
The next FAC meeting is scheduled for February 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Shaker Heights Public Library, 16500 Van Aken Blvd. In addition to reviewing the updated Woodbury Campus design, FAC members will receive an update on the launch of the District’s Sustainability Plan and engagement process. The Sustainability Plan will initiate discussion of certain components of the K-5 building renovation projects. FAC members also will provide input for the traffic study being prepared for the Woodbury Campus and surrounding area.
