Woodbury Design Receives Positive Feedback

Architects from GPD Group presented the latest renderings for the Woodbury building to the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) and the Board of Education earlier this week. The FAC members and board members provided positive feedback on the revised renderings, noting that changes to the brick patterns and window panels made a significant difference in the building’s facade. The architectural team will appear before the Architectural Board of Review on Monday, June 16 for conditional approval, which is required for mass demolition of the wings.

Board of Education Approves Woodbury Guaranteed Maximum Price #2

On Tuesday, the Board of Education approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) resolution from Gilbane Building Co. for the second phase of construction at Woodbury. This GMP covers the development of the building pad for new construction as well as external demolition of the current structure’s “wings.” The GMP commits that this phase of work will be completed at an agreed upon cost not to exceed approximately $1.75 million.

The Board of Education approved the GMP for the first phase of construction on March 11. That work included asbestos abatement and selective demolition. The Board will be asked to approve a GMP for the third and final phase at a later date.

Facilities Advisory Committee Discusses Sustainability

On Monday, Michael Fodor of Emerald Built Environments gave a presentation on sustainability to the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC). FAC members shared their goals for the District’s sustainability plan, including the need for sustainable changes that are visible in schools, financial sustainability, and partnerships with the City for sustainability initiatives. Mr. Fodor is expected to submit a District Sustainability Plan later this month.

Ludlow Renovation Update

Excavation has begun for the northern vestibule, and footers will follow. New window installation has also begun on the second floor of the building.
