Facilities Advisory Committee Update

At the March 3 Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) meeting, members received a financial briefing from Shaker Heights Schools Treasurer Donté Hayes. The FAC was presented with the District’s five-year financial forecast and budget. Hayes answered questions about sources of revenues, trends in increased expenses and implications of local, state and federal shifts in education funding. Five-year forecasts are submitted to the state every May and November.

The most recent design for the new Woodbury campus building was presented. FAC members provided extensive feedback on the schematic design and site plan. The design team will make revisions to the design based on this feedback as well as feedback from the Architectural Board of Review (ABR) and Joint City Planning/Board of Zoning Appeals February work sessions. The updated design and site plan will be presented to the ABR in late March in advance of a presentation to the City Planning Commission in early April.

Ludlow Early Learning Center Update

At the FAC meeting, Superintendent Dr. David Glasner and Mayor David Weiss presented an update on the design strategy for the Ludlow Early Learning Center playground, landscape plan, site amenities and play fields. The architects have been asked to update the design to include an expanded playground area in 6,300 square feet of space. The expanded fenced-in playground will move closer to the backstop fence and extend along the side yard of the Keswick Road side of the Ludlow building. The updated plans are being prepared now, as are opportunities for community members to provide feedback on the updated design.
