Woodbury Construction Fence

If you have driven down South Woodland recently, you have likely seen the construction fence going up around Woodbury! Contractors began installing poles and fencing earlier this week. Representatives from the District, Gilbane Building Co. and AKA Construction met with residents of Woodbury Road on Thursday to share information on construction, including the schedule and traffic flow. Abatement and selective interior demolition is ongoing, and mass demolition of the wings on the Woodbury building will begin this summer.

The District shared information with families and staff at Onaway Elementary School regarding changes in parking. The construction fence will block part of the Onaway parking lot. To meet building needs for parking, the Onaway blacktop play area will be striped for parking. The striping is expected to take place within the next week. Students will still have space for supervised outdoor recess games, but they will take place on the tennis courts and the field behind Onaway. The new parking area will provide parking spaces during the Woodbury renovation, and the District will reevaluate the future use of that blacktop space after the renovation is complete.

Ludlow Renovation Update

The Ludlow renovation is progressing as planned. Drywall finishing on the second floor is ongoing, and contractors have put on the first layer of paint in select classrooms. Drywall installation continues on the first floor, with select classrooms undergoing drywall finishing. The contractors have also begun the construction of water fountain nooks throughout the building. Brick demolition has also started as part of building new vestibules at Ludlow. The District preschool team visited Ludlow last week to see the renovation progress.

Sustainability Update for PTO Members

Project Manager Michael Fodor of Emerald Built Environments recently met with PTO members to discuss sustainability initiatives within the District. Emerald Built Environments is working with the District to find opportunities for sustainability improvements as part of the Long-Term Master Facilities Plan. PTO members shared feedback and recommendations to improve sustainable practices in the District, including compostable lunch trays, electric machinery and no-mow outdoor spaces.

In May, Emerald will complete their Districtwide energy analysis and deliver a draft District sustainability plan. In June, Mr. Fodor will meet with the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) for further stakeholder engagement before submitting the final District sustainability plan.
