Community Celebrates Opening of the Ludlow Early Learning Center

This afternoon, the Shaker Heights community celebrated the opening of the Ludlow Early Learning Center! Families, staff, residents and alumni attended the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting at Ludlow. On Monday, September 15, the Ludlow Early Learning Center will open its doors to the District’s youngest learners and their families.

Earlier this week, the Ludlow facility passed the state preschool inspection. Health, elevator, plumbing mechanical, electrical and fire inspections have all passed, and the City of Shaker Heights granted an occupancy permit. Faculty and staff have been in the building since September 8, setting up classrooms and offices. Furniture and supplies have been delivered. The construction crew conducted a final deep cleaning September 8, and the District’s custodial team will conduct additional interior cleaning prior to student arrival.

The parking lot paving is expected to be completed this weekend and ready for the start of instruction. Parking lot striping will take place after school opens. Exterior work on the north addition vestibule will continue after school begins. Construction fences around the perimeter of the building were removed this week.

GPD Presents Woodbury Interior Renderings to FAC

On Monday, the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC) met with Superintendent Dr. David Glasner and representatives of GDP Group to review interior renderings of what will be the new Middle Years building (formerly Woodbury Elementary School). The renderings were positively received and sparked a variety of questions and discussions. The renderings were also shared with the Middle School staff and will be shared in the coming weeks with the community. Meanwhile, demolition continues on the two wings of the building.
