Webpage Updated with Additional 'Frequently Asked Questions'
The District’s long-term facilities planning webpage has been updated to include additional ‘Frequently Asked Questions.’ The page also includes links to planning process resources and archives. Community members can view the webpage at shaker.org/facilitiesplan.
Board of Education Regular Meeting on July 18
The upcoming Shaker Heights Board of Education's regular meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, in the High School small auditorium. This session will be open to the public to attend in person and will also be livestreamed at shaker.org/boardlive and via Boxcast.
The meeting will include an update on facilities with a report from the District’s Finance & Audit Committee, and the Board will vote on a Resolution To Proceed for inclusion on the November 2023 ballot. The resolution represents the final step before the District files the ballot issue with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections by the August 9 deadline, and it authorizes the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to fund its portion of the Segment 1 of the District’s Long-Term Masters Facilities Plan.
The Long-Term Master Facilities Plan is segmented into two separate ballot issues, with the bond issue for the first segment appearing on the November 2023 ballot.
The District’s Long-Term Master Facilities Plan includes:
- Segment 1
- Renovate Ludlow to accommodate expanded PreK program
- Renovate and expand Woodbury as a Middle Years Building (Grades 6-8)
- Renovate Boulevard, Lomond, Mercer and Onaway and convert elementary school buildings to include Grade 5
- Build addition to Fernway to accommodate Grade 5
- Segment 2
- Build new High School near current campus site
(Please note, the order of the buildings within each segment does not necessarily indicate the order of construction.)
To fund the first segment of the Long-Term Master Facilities Plan, the District is seeking three funding requests, which will appear on the ballot as one question:
- A 6.4-mill bond issue to raise $121,190,000 for construction and improvement of facilities
- An additional 0.5-mill permanent improvement levy
- A 3-mill operating levy to help pay for an expanded PreK program
