Dear CSD Parents and Families,
Believe it or not, springtime is just around the corner. While one of February’s claims to fame is that it is the shortest month of the year, March also has some events we look forward to and appreciate.
March is a month that provides us with significant change. Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 12, when sunrise and sunset are about one hour later than the day before. March is the official start of the spring season (Monday, March 20, at 4:24 pm, to be exact! :) March also allows our students time to refresh and rejuvenate over an extended break from classes starting on Friday, March 24. I hope you and your family can take this occasion to relax, cherish family time, and enjoy one another’s company.
On several occasions this past month, I had the opportunity to visit our schools and interact with students. I want to commend the school community for the level of preparation, instruction, and focus that our students receive on a daily basis. When I walked the halls of our schools, it was evident our students are learning in addition to providing them with plenty of fun opportunities, whether in class, at lunch, at recess, or involved in school activities.
I want to take this moment to thank everyone, from teachers to parents to community members, who continue to make the Cedarburg School District a great place. One of the hallmarks of a great district is to observe the extra work and volunteer hours that so many commit to ensuring our students have a thriving learning environment. Thank you!
Wishing you a great start to spring,
Dr. Jeridon Clark, Superintendent

DHS Announces Updates to Immunization Requirements
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has announced updates to the immunizations needed for children in childcare centers and schools. The changes include updated requirements related to meningitis and whooping cough immunizations and that past chickenpox infection must be documented by a qualified medical professional. There is no change to existing exemption options for medical, religious, or philosophical reasons. Seasonal flu vaccination or COVID-19 vaccinations are not required, but DHS strongly recommends.

CPAC Offers a Masterclass
The Cedarburg Performing Arts Center (CPAC), Inc. was excited to welcome SIX APPEAL as the fifth performance of the Visiting Artists Series on Fri., February 24. The mission of CPAC, Inc. Visiting Artists Series is to present programming to entertain, enlighten and educate our greater community. An integral part of this mission is to provide students with educational outreach opportunities as often as possible.
On Friday afternoon, four of the six group members offered a masterclass for several CHS band and choir students, covering topics like making a music hobby into a career, what the business side of a band looks like, trying to stand out in a saturated music market, and the logistics of coordinating six different working professionals who live across the country. A smaller group of A cappella and Bella Voce choir students then participated in a rehearsal and performed with the professional touring artists on Friday evening. CPAC, Inc. is thrilled to host this outreach opportunity for more than 70 students!

Webster Hydroponic Garden
The Green Team at Webster has a new vertical hydroponic garden, made possible by a grant from the Cedarburg Education Foundation. Called a Fork Farm, this garden is a fully self-contained innovative growing system that allows schools to grow their own greens and herbs. The Webster Green Team officers, in collaboration with the 7th and 8th-grade science classes, have been able to plant the seed plugs, monitor the system, and harvest the greens. They began with growing romaine, and green leaf lettuce served in salads to middle school students during lunch. The team is looking to expand, experimenting with arugula, kale, spinach, cucumbers, and tomatoes while testing with drying basil to serve on the pizzas!

Did you know that each Cedarburg elementary school has a Green Squad?!
Elementary Green Squads were started at each school in the Spring of 2021. Like the Webster’s Green Team and the Environmental Club at CHS, these groups work together to oversee outdoor learning spaces and foster an interest in and love for the outdoors. The Elementary Green Squads host four school-wide events, two Stewardship Days, and two Outdoor Learning Experiences each year. They also host the Story Strolls in their outdoor spaces for all classes and community to enjoy. They are organized by CSD Green Squad Facilitator Rachel Race from Riveredge Nature Center, who works with a team of teachers and parents from each school as a follow-up to the 5-year Scientist in Residence partnership with Cedarburg School District. If you would like to be involved in any of the elementary teams, please reach out to your school.

CCSF Student Scholarship Drive
The Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund (CCSF), founded in 1973, has a single goal of raising scholarship money for high school seniors in the Cedarburg community. In that time, over $4 million has been awarded to more than 3,000 graduates from 8 area high schools and home schools. Last year alone, $180,000 was awarded to seniors. Each spring, Senior scholarship applicants and Junior National Honor Society students work on the Student Drive. There are two parts to the drive, a Door-to-Door campaign, and the Phonathon. This year's Door-to-Door Drive is March 10 - 12, followed by the Phonathon on March 14 - 16. Every dollar raised goes directly to graduating seniors in the Cedarburg community. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.ccsf.info.
