Summer Academy 2021
As another summer school wraps up, a big shout-out goes to all the students who participated this year. A special thank you to our fantastic Summer Academy staff! Check out this highlight video from SA 2021.
DISTRICT MISSION: The mission of the Cedarburg School District is to provide an exemplary education that challenges students in a nurturing environment to develop into lifelong learners, to become responsible adults, and to achieve their goals and dreams.
We are just a little over one month away before the start of the 2021-22 school year. Planning has been underway to offer a fully in-person program. There is much to be excited about this year as we begin using brand-new spaces to their fullest capacity. As we prepare for the fall, the information presented to the Board at the July meeting has not changed. More detail has been added, but the return to an entirely in-person structure remains in place. You can find a link to our website with the latest information here. We know this is a very fluid environment as new guidance surrounding COVID is coming out daily. We will continue to monitor this information to ensure our plan is in the best interest of our students and staff.

Be well,

Todd Bugnacki, Superintendent
New Board Member, Laura Stroebel
At the July 21st School Board meeting, the Board reviewed applications and heard opening statements from 7 candidates to fill a midterm vacancy. Following opening remarks from each candidate, the School Board voted to appoint Laura Stroebel. Mrs. Stroebel received the oath of office and is now our newest member of the Cedarburg School Board. Please join us in welcoming her to the Board!
Embargoed State Assessment Data
Cedarburg School District presented a preliminary review of student assessment data from the 2020-21 school year to the Cedarburg School Board on Wednesday, July 21st. The preliminary look at state and district student assessment scores shows CSD students performing well during the pandemic. Key areas of focus for the 2021-22 school year have been identified by grade level and content areas. Teachers and administrators emphasize the importance of approaching student data on an individual student basis to best support all students’ needs. The district is looking forward to the public release of the state assessment data this fall in combination with the school and district report cards. Results from these assessments are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, students, and families!

Families can access individual student reports for Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), Wisconsin Forward Exam, Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM), ACCESS for ELLs, and ACT Aspire on Skyward Family Access by navigating to Skyward Family Access > Portfolios and Reports (Note: assessments vary by grade/individual).
Reminder: Online Registration Is Open
The online registration window is open for currently enrolled students. Families received an email on July 14 with the detailed instructions below for completing the online registration for the 2021-2022 school year.

To register your student, please complete the process in Skyward Family Access for each of your students. Directions and supplemental documents can be found on the district website under Families > Enrollment and Registration under the Annual Online Registration section. Registration will close on August 20th.
July Summer Learning & Professional Development
English Language Arts
K-5 ELA teachers met in July to refresh the Math and Literacy Progress Report Descriptors and unwrap key standards used to guide the priority work for each grade level. Unwrapping entails identifying the specific knowledge, and skills students need to reach a particular standard. Once these areas are identified, it lays the groundwork for focused instruction and assessment.
Math & World Language
Math teachers from Webster convened to refine their team’s mission/vision of math instruction and prepare for a new textbook/primary math resource trial in Quarter 1, while middle and high school World Language teachers met to update their common assessments.
Maker Leads
Maker Leads, teacher groups from all five schools, received training on new Maker Space equipment, and attended CSD's first inaugural MakerCamp. They worked on hands-on application ideas for students next year.
Where in the World is #WeAreCSD?

If you’d like, please share your summer adventures with us, and we’ll post them on our district Facebook page. Whether you’re in Cedarburg or on the road, we love to see the places where your summer memories are made. Send a picture with a short description to Karen Egelhoff at [email protected].

CPL Book Bike
A new Book Bike was revealed at a Friends of the Library event on July 21 in conjunction with the Cedarburg Reads 2021 book selections at the Cedarburg Public Library. This year there are three books (children, intermediate, and adult level) with the common thread of stories about the packhorse librarians of the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky.
The Cedarburg Friends of the Library Fund purchased the e-assist book bike for the library for community outreach. It was hand-built by Icicle Tricycle in Portland, Oregon. Look for it to arrive at various community places and events. Librarians hope to showcase events at the library, highlight books available for check out, and allow residents to apply for a library card. They feel Cedarburg is a perfect community for the bike. We are excited to see it around town! Mayor Mike O’Keefe takes it for a spin.
