Meal Pricing Information
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will not be extending the current child nutrition waivers which allowed for universal free meals past June 30th. As of now, schools in Massachusetts and across the country will no longer provide universal free meals after June 30th, 2022 unless funding at the state level is provided. As a result, the district has reviewed DESE recommendations regarding school meal pricing and has made recommendations to the School Committee regarding meal pricing for the 22-23 school year
On June 14th, the School Committee approved a $0.50 increase to student lunch prices and $0.20 to student breakfast prices. This increase is necessary to support the program in response to rising food costs, delivery fees, maintenance increases and other expenses that allow the program to continue. The program has to be self-supporting. The local appropriation budget does not allocate any funding towards the foodservice program.
Free and Reduced lunch will continue to be available to qualifying families. The application for free and reduced meals will be available in Mid-August. We encourage families to keep an eye out for future communications about when the application is available so they may apply as the new school year begins to ensure there is no loss of benefits to students.
