What's Happening in our Churches!

Share YOUR stories! Send information to carrieboyer@unyumc.org

Calvary Latham UMC's Youth Mission trip was a day of service and experiencing the beauty of Niagara Falls, highlighting God's presence throughout. More than a dozen youth members of the church spent the day doing mission work. First stop was at the Upper New York Mission Central HUB, then they were off to Niagara Falls to do more mission work surrounding food insecurities. This is the church’s first youth mission trip since the pandemic. A true example of loving your neighbor as yourself in all places.

Small group archives’ resource guide now available

Learn and explore United Methodist history with your congregation using the new Wesleyan Vile-tality Leaders Guide. The UNY Commission on Archives and History created this guide for small group settings to be used as part of discipleship. It coincides with the 2024 Upper New York Annual Conference learning session where Dr. Ashley Boggan, General Secretary of the General Commission on Archives and History, talked about the importance of reconnecting with our United Methodist roots.

The guide is broken into three sessions and uses portions of Dr. Boggan’s video presentation from annual conference and includes a scripture passage, discussion questions, and a prayer to guide the group. The resource is free and available for download

READING FOR THE DAY

1 Corinthians 9:24-27

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Even when I face obstacles, I will stay

focused on God’s calling for my life.

TODAY'S PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, when we face hurdles, show us how to keep our focus on you so that we complete our work for you. Amen.

Letting Go

Sailing is an interesting way to travel, for you don’t have control over your source of propulsion. At one moment you may be struggling to respond to a powerful storm that threatens to overwhelm you; while at another moment you may be dealing with a windless day that leaves you stranded.

The Holy Spirit has often been likened to being like the wind, a powerful force that can propel us in directions we never imagined. We can’t control the Holy Spirit any more than we can the wind, but we can choose to respond to it and allow it to push us in directions of ministry we never imagined.

Like the expert sailor who looks for signs of what the wind will do, we can look for signs of where the Holy Spirit is seeking to propel us. That sign may be revealed to us through Scripture and prayer, an event that inspires us to pursue a new path, or by a friend who sees in us gifts that can be used in a particular way.

The paths the Holy Spirit chooses to propel us down, but all ultimately are called to share the Good News of a loving God who calls us to love one another.

Your local Faith Community stands ready to assist you in clarifying where God is calling, help you grow in your relationship with God, and support you in your struggles.
