New District Performing Arts Center Opens
The beautiful new $8 million Rowland Unified School District Performing Arts Center opened on January 31, 2020. The Center is available for use by all schools across the District. Pictured below, the Board of Education cuts the ribbon!
Rowland Unified School District held its grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting of its new District Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 31. The event followed with the 2020 inaugural season premiere performance of the annual Winterfest strings concert that was broadcasted on Facebook LIVE for the community to enjoy at -- you can still watch it by clicking here .

Thanks to the community’s support of the Measure R Bond, the $8 million state-of-the art facility is 18,000 square feet and the theater seats 615 guests. This professional space with the latest stage lighting, sound, and full catwalk and loading bridge, along with counterbalanced rigging for full fly capability of backdrops and sets, is designed to showcase a variety of visual and performing arts from across the District such as theater, dance, choral, band, strings, as well as District presentations and community events. It is housed on the revitalized campus of Rowland High School. 

Theater Quick Facts:
  • 7,300 SF house with 615 seats
  • Stage size is 3,200 SF
  • Backstage includes a fully equipped stage shop, scene/costume storage and manager's office. Large dressing rooms are provided as well and a quick change dressing room for in-scene costume changes.
  • Above-house catwalk system encircles the upper level of the house and allows students and instructors to move stage left and right, back and front without having to return to the stage level.

WATCH THE WINTERFEST CONCERT! To celebrate the inaugural performance of the RUSD Performing Arts Center, the Winterfest Strings Concert was broadcast live on The annual concert featured performances by:
  • The Rowland Unified School District String Orchestra
  • RUSD Combined Middle School Orchestra (students from Alvarado Intermediate, Giano Intermediate, Telesis Academy and Oswalt Academy
  • The Nogales High School Orchestra
  • The Rowland High School Orchestra
  • RUSD Chamber Orchestra
  • New District Cello Choir and District Luminous Band, the first ensemble to combine electric string instruments with traditional electric instruments such as electric guitar, bass guitar and keyboard.
