Thanks to the HDR Foundation, Benson West Elementary received bikes from the All Kids Bike program. Kindergartners will learn to ride bikes during PE, building confidence and coordination and having fun along the way.

Summer 2025 Office Hours Begin May 27

Beginning Tuesday, May 27, summer office hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Twelve-month employees should work with their supervisor or principal to determine their choice of hours: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with 30 minutes for lunch.


All offices with two or more persons should be covered from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Office of the Superintendent should be informed whenever an office or school will not be covered for the entire day, due to vacations, etc. at (531) 299-0310.


Summer hours for the mail center at the Teacher Administrative Center will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. U.S. mail should be in the mail center by 3 p.m. during summer hours.


Summer office hours will end at the close of the work day on Friday, July 25, and regular office hours will resume with the beginning of the work day on Monday, July 28.

School Bus Driver Starts Students’ Day with a Smile 

Each day brings a different route and new faces for standby bus driver Gary DeVeney. He fills in for Omaha Public Schools bus drivers. 

 

“I grew up in Omaha, and I enjoy seeing new parts of our city,” said DeVeney. “Plus, it’s nice seeing a lot of new people.” 

 

For more than 14 years, DeVeney has driven for our district. He says the number one priority is our students’ safety but also setting the standard for their day.

Accelerating Teacher Learning Opportunity

Spanish Immersion Language Program

Spanish Immersion is a unique opportunity for Omaha Public Schools staff to become bilingual and biliterate. The goal of the program is to develop high levels of language proficiency in Spanish. The class is taught primarily in Spanish. Interest forms are open for the 2025-26 school year. This opportunity is for the full academic year.
