Student Placement Administrator Guides Families Through School Selection Process

The Student and Community Services office at Omaha Public Schools buzzes with activity every January. This month is set aside each year for School Selection for students to make their middle and/or high school choice preferences.

Behind the scenes, you will find staff like Julie Zimmerman, a school placement administrator. She assists students and families with the process.

Professional Learning Day

Eligible staff are encouraged to attend the 2024 Professional Learning Day on Feb. 2. Please encourage your staff to review the informational flyer and visit the Professional Learning Day homepage.

Superintendent Search

The Omaha Public Schools Superintendent Search is moving forward. The application window closed this month, following a recruitment period that began Oct. 17, 2023.

Next, the search firm will thoroughly review all applications and candidate qualifications. After our Board of Education reviews semi-finalists, they will announce finalists for the position.

Then, the Board of Education will host public interviews with the finalists. The Board-adopted timeline anticipates selecting a final candidate in mid-February.

Feedback gathered throughout the search, including survey responses and community forum input, continues to guide the process.

We will share Superintendent Search updates directly with staff, families and high school students by email. The latest information will also be posted to ops.org/superintendentsearch.

Investing in Our Students, Staff, Families and School District Community

Omaha Public Schools Foundation (OPSF) donors inspire, open doors and help students to achieve their dreams.

Thanks to that support, students at Wakonda Elementary are enjoying new books and a cozy space to learn and reflect.

As the non-profit arm of Omaha Public Schools, every dollar donated to OPSF supports our students, staff and families.

You can be part through a one-time donation or a regular payroll deduction.

All payroll deductions are after-tax and go directly to OPSF.

Staff interested in payroll deduction contributions to the Omaha Public Schools Foundation can complete this form and submit it to payroll@ops.org
