Burke High Cafeteria Manager Serves Students a Recipe for Success

From menu displays to plating and serving, Kurt Sage provides Burke High students with a restaurant-style experience. As cafeteria manager, Sage recognizes the importance of feeding young minds with nourishing meals.

“You eat with your eyes first,” said Sage. “We’ve found that students are more likely to pick a vegetable when it’s displayed nicely or there are multiple dressing options available.”

Sage and his staff create a welcoming experience for the 1,100 students they serve daily with their food preparations and interactions. He encourages staff to approach students with a kind gesture rather than a “do you want this or that” question.

“I want to make a difference in kids’ lives,” said Sage. “Whether that be from the foods they eat to the choices they make beyond high school.”

Digital Citizenship Week is Next Week, Oct. 16-20

What is it?

Digital Citizenship Week was started to highlight the importance of helping kids, families and teachers navigate our 24/7 digital world.

What are the benefits?

  1. It increases awareness about safety, responsibility and ethics in the digital world.
  2. It promotes online safety by emphasizing the importance of protecting passwords, recognizing online scams and navigating digital drama in healthy ways.
  3. It teaches digital well-being to help kids maintain a healthy balance between their online and offline lives.

Celebrate Digital Citizenship Week with these calendars from Common Sense Education, full of fun activities and resources
