Greetings, MSCS Family.

Once again, we are grappling with a devastating and unthinkable tragedy -- this time, right here in Tennessee. The death toll of Monday's horrific shooting in Nashville currently stands at three children and four adults.

We extend our deepest sympathies and support to the families and staff of Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, and the entire Metro Nashville community. Our hearts are with you.

The emotional impact and trauma of a school shooting are far-reaching, and we are committed to keeping our children safe, healthy, and vigilant. We are open to sharing and willing to listen.

Safety and Security Strategic Operations

As we work to Finish Strong, be assured that our Safety and Security Team is continuing to implement its comprehensive plan to enhance safety.

Using a sophisticated data dashboard, our teams monitor District offices and schools around the clock to identify the potential for fault-line areas.

It is a requirement in school safety protocols that exterior doors be locked during school hours and during all activities held after school hours.

We also continue to partner with local law enforcement agencies to increase officer visibility on our campuses.

Safety Investments

As part of our commitment to ensuring students' safety, we are investing in security upgrades, staffing, and equipment. We shared details about the $1.5 million+ invested in technology, including metal detectors, cameras, and alarm and software advancements. We are also keeping a sharp focus on mentorship and counseling for students.

Schools should be a place for children to learn without fear. We stand with our fellow educators to sound the alarm against violence. Enough is enough.
