Supt. Ray Discusses Plan for Phased Return to In-Person Learning in January
All Teachers Asked to Submit a Preference for Delivering Instruction October 21-30

This evening, Superintendent Ray discussed a proposed plan to return to in-person learning in January during the Academic Performance Committee. Be assured, the safety of our students, staff and families continues to be our highest priority in every decision we make. We continue to follow the Health Department's guidelines and we are confident in the steps we've taken to make our schools safe for learning. With that in mind, we are extremely excited about the opportunity to begin a plan for welcoming our students and educators back for in-person instruction.

Under the current proposal, grades Pre-K - 5 and students with exceptional needs would return first in early January. Grades 6-12 would return in mid-January. Below is a detailed look at the working timeline for re-entry, as well as the metrics being used to guide the District's plan for reopening schools. Click each image to enlarge it. Please be on the lookout for more details in the weeks ahead as plans for reopening are further solidified.
As we prepare for a safe return to in-person learning in the months ahead, we are excited about welcoming our educators back to school. Though we will not begin our phased return school until at least January, we are taking steps now to ensure we are ready for a smooth, successful and, most importantly, a safe reopening.
Like we've said all along, flexibility is critical during these times. While we are confident in our health and safety protocols and encourage all teachers to return when schools reopen, we know it is important to provide you with a choice that best meets your personal needs.
As families update their preferred learning options for when schools reopen, we are also asking teachers to choose in-person or virtual instruction. You can do so by completing this survey October 21 - 30

Please note, if you do not complete the survey by October 30, it will be expected that you return for in-person instruction when schools reopen. Additionally, please be sure to contact your principal directly to update your instructional preference.
Our goal is to maintain the fidelity of instruction and continuous learning for our students the rest of the school year, so all teachers should expect to have a combination of in-person and virtual students each day.
Again, we have made every effort to ensure our buildings are safe to resume in-person learning beginning in January. Like the thousands of employees who have been reporting to work over the past several months, we believe you'll be just as impressed when you return.
