Please keep the family of Rev. Paul Mills in your prayers. Rev. Mills, 90, died on May 10. He served several Upper New York churches (prior to the merger of conferences in 2010.). A funeral service was held Thursday at Shenendehowa UMC. Condolences can be sent to Rev. Mills' wife, Maxene Mills at The Meadows at Glenwick,150 Dutch Meadows Ln, Apt. 313, Glenville, NY 12302. Click here to read Rev. Mills’ full obituary. This from Rev. Lee Carlson, pastor at Shenendehowa UMC:

Paul loved serving God and His people and sharing the light of Christ throughout his life.  Paul will be remembered for always having a kind and encouraging word to anyone he saw serving in the church - from the youngest to the oldest. Paul and Maxene were active in our church choir for many years. One of the things he was known for at Shen UMC was to remain seated until the very end of the postlude each week and then offering up his joyful applause, even though most of the congregation had exited the sanctuary. He will be greatly missed.

A joy! An Open House celebration for the Rev. Virginia Cornell 's 90th birthday will be held on Sunday, June 18 at the Victory Mills Firehouse in Victory Mills from 1 PM to 5 PM. No gifts, just your self and a dish to pass. Virginia is pastor at the North Cambridge (Stump) UMC.

Tom Duers and Carole Duers (First UMC of Lake George) ask for continued prayer for Carole. Tom reports that things are looking more hopeful for his mom as they are looking into other options for a kidney transplant. If you'd like to send notes of care and encouragement, their address is 302 B, 25 Larose St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Please keep Debbie Robinson in your prayers as she struggles with Parkinson's Disease. Debbie is the daughter of Doug Baker (lay supply at Raceville UMC). Cards can be sent to Debbie in care of Doug @ 5 Madison St., Apt. E, Granville, NY 12832.

If you'd like prayer for yourself or others, or you'd like to share a joy, please be in touch with Carrie (518) 608-1246 or adirondackdistrict@unyumc.org

Please know that we will need to contact folks to be sure they feel comfortable with us publishing their information.

Amid policy changes,

church keeps faith with migrants

DALLAS (UM News) — The end of the COVID-19-related U.S. immigration restriction known as Title 42 had many predicting a surge of asylum seekers entering the U.S. from Mexico. So far, that hasn’t happened, but United Methodists who assist migrants remain busy — and concerned. Sam Hodges reports.

No new elections needed for General Conference 2024

The United Methodist Church’s highest court ruled that new delegate elections “are not required” for the long-delayed and potentially pivotal General Conference, now set for 2024.

What this means is that the Upper New York (UNY) Conference delegates that were elected at the 2019 UNY Annual Conference for the originally slotted 2020 General Conference will be able to serve at the 2024 General Conference. There is no need for new elections.

The location and dates for the 2024 General Conference have also been announced—the event will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina from April 23 to May 3, 2024.

Visit 'Spiritual Life" page on

Conference website

The intent of the spiritual life ministry is to support/nurture/companion individuals in their faith journey; to help individuals grow their relationship with God so they can be more faithful, obedient disciples of Christ. Developing our spiritual lives is about each of us living more fully into the person God created us to be and the life that God desires for us. This requires intentionality and attentiveness to God and God’s presence in all of our lives and joining together in community to support and nurture one another.

We invite you to explore the spiritual disciplines and practices that will draw you closer to God and deeper into a relationship with God. Explore with us workshops, retreats, training opportunities that will deepen your relationship as a disciple of Christ.

Handbook of spiritual practices
Click here for a handbook of spiritual practices, written by the Rev. Nancy Dibelius. It was originally conceived as a supplement to the Conference spiritual direction training program, but Nancy is hopeful that it will find a broader use throughout the Conference. It provides history, Christian heritage, and basic how-to for a broad range of spiritual practices. Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
