2nd grader wins state " Doodle for Google" competition
Your vote can help him win the national prize!
La Academia 2nd grader, Liam Pautz, was chosen as the STATE winner for the  Doodle for Google national competition. His design is now one of 52 finalists for the National competition.  You can help Liam win by voting for his design -- vote online before the end of day Friday HERE.  Google will announce five National Finalists later in June, one of whom will have their Doodle featured on the Google homepage for a day. The National winner will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and his/her school will receive a $50,000 tech package towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology program. Congrats to Liam and the whole La Academia team! Don't forget to VOTE!
District begins equity audit work
At the May 20 Board meeting, Dr. Muhammad Khalifa, CEO of Adjusted School Equity Solutions and professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Minnesota, outlined the work involved in the equity audit he will conduct for the district this summer. Learn more HERE.
Changes expected in standards-based grading and Empower
Eastern Carver County Schools is committed to personalized learning. This year's evaluation process clearly demonstrated that the Board, parents, students, and staff alike recognize the value of this approach.  What isn't working is the tool we use to support this work, Empower. Results of a district-wide parent survey can be found HERE. At the May 20th Board meeting, the Teaching and Learning staff presented their initial plan for transitions related to use of Empower and standards-based grading. Read more HERE.
Board asks for final referendum recommendations
At its meeting on May 20, the School Board asked for a final referendum recommendation to be brought to the June 10 work session. The district is considering options to manage growing enrollment, aging buildings, budget pressures and academic needs. Learn more HERE
