District leaders share draft of D220 mission, core beliefs, learner profile, strategic priorities
At the June 7 Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, district leaders shared an update on the district's strategic planning process Framework 220. Over the past few months the district has gathered feedback in-person and virtually from nearly 4,500 stakeholders. The feedback was used to create drafts of the following:
 

At the June 7 meeting, the Board reviewed the drafts and provided feedback. The Board is anticipated to take a vote on final versions at its next meeting on June 21. This work will serve as the foundation and strategic direction for Barrington 220. In the fall, the district will develop specific action plans within each strategic priority. Board recognizes Prairie Scholastic Bowl Team
At the June 7 Board meeting, the Board recognized the Prairie Scholastic Bowl Team, which won the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Class AA State Championship last month. Out of more than 400 teams across Illinois, Prairie took home the first place title. The team is coached by Prairie teachers Amy Boucek and Kayla Strain. Congrats! BHS student earns perfect score on ACT
At the June 7 Board meeting, the Board recognized Rhea Banerjee (BHS '22), who earned a perfect score on the ACT. During her time at BHS, Rhea served as a Student Mentor, member of the Chamber Orchestra, and member of the National Honor Society. She also participated on the Girl's Lacrosse Team and the Girl's Swimming and Diving Team. Rhea will attend Georgetown University in the fall, where she plans to study International Economics. BHS student named 2022 Golden Apple Scholar
At the June 7 Board meeting, the Board recognized Kaitlyn Madderom (BHS '22), who has been named a 2022 Golden Apple Scholar. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois program is a teacher preparation and tuition assistance program for high school seniors and freshman and sophomore Illinois college students who have the determination and drive to be highly effective teachers in Illinois schools-of-need. It prepares aspiring teachers for immediate and lasting success in the most challenging teaching environments. During her time at BHS, Kaitlyn was a member of the National Honor Society and was named "Outstanding Pre-School Teacher and Outstanding Student in Elementary Education" by the BHS Life Skills Department. Kaitlyn will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the fall, where she plans to study Elementary Education. Click here to view the recognition.
Board approves new Elementary Director of Student Services
At the June 7 Board meeting, the Board approved Ann Cygnar as the district's new Director of Student Services at the elementary level. Cygnar comes to Barrington 220 from Community Consolidated School District 15, where she is currently the Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. She has also worked in CCSD 15 as the Assistant Director of Student Services and the Student Services Coordinator. Cygnar earned her bachelor's degree in Special Education from Illinois State University. She also holds a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Olivet Nazarene and a Director of Special Education endorsement from Aurora University. She begins in her new role on July 1.
Board approves new BHS Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Secondary Counseling
At the June 7 Board meeting, the Board approved Stephanie Spiewak as a new Asistant Principal of Barrington High School and Coordinator of Secondary Counseling. Spiewak comes to Barrington 220 from Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401 where she works as an Assistant Principal. She also previously worked as a Counselor and as the Counseling Department Chair at Saint Viator High School. Spiewak earned a bachelor's degree in English and Secondary Education from Loyola University. She also holds a master's degree in School Counseling from Lewis University and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from North Park University. Spiewak begins in her new role on July 1.
Barrington 220 to explore solar energy opportunities
At the June 7 Board meeting, Barrington 220's Energy Specialist provided the Board with a presentation that focused on how the district is currently practicing energy sustainability, as well as what the district can do moving forward. Since 2015, Barrington 220 has reduced energy costs by more than 20%, saving the district nearly $2.8 million. The district plans to research how it can further reduce energy costs by installing solar panels on school buildings, as Build 220 construction continues across the district.
