Message from the Superintendent

|
Community,
Happy November! I am truly thankful to be your Superintendent and for the sense of Community we have in Pittsburg. The students, staff, families, and community of Pittsburg make up a wonderful, supportive community for all of our young scholars.
There have been many great reminders over the last few weeks of the sense of community we have in Pittsburg. Earlier this month, a group of teachers came to a Board workshop to share their work in providing a more inclusive environment for our students with disabilities. We have been working over the last few years to change the manner in which we educate our scholars with disabilities. It was truly inspiring to hear from the special and general education teachers about their work and how it has resulted in all of our scholars having the benefit of a more inclusive school experience. This work, along with our Pitt Unified Sports, makes sure all of our scholars are a valuable part of our PUSD Community.
This past weekend, we had the Band Showcase, which really was a showcase for our fantastic music programs. Seeing the elementary music scholars with the Junior High bands and our Pride of Pittsburg Marching Show Band filled me with gratitude for the support we have received for our music programs from the Community and the Parcel Tax.
I also attended the Celebration of Life Service yesterday for Mr. DeWitt Bussey lll, a person from the Community who worked across our schools for over two decades, leaving a positive impact wherever he went.
We are all fortunate to be part of this Community and I am grateful we all share the common goal of creating the best environment and opportunities for all of our scholars. Thank you.
In Community,
Janet

Mrs. Ana Perez, Martin Luther King Jr. JHS
|
We have a
#PittsburgPride
post to share with you. Meet Mrs. Perez, Parent Liaison at Martin Luther King Jr. JHS. She has worked in
Pittsburg Unified School District
for fourteen years and has a huge passion for supporting PUSD parents. In her blog post, she says,
"My passion was always teaching; however, once I became a Parent Coordinator/Parent and Family Liaison, something clicked, I knew this is what I was called to do. Working with families, the school staff, and the scholars…and helping them to become successful in life, makes me feel more complete. I love to help and serve my families. Now, I can say Pittsburg is my home and I have Pittsburg Pride."

Meet Ms. Heidi Leber, Principal of Hillview Junior High School. She was born and raised in Pittsburg and is extremely proud of our community. In her
#PittsburgPride
blog post, she writes,
"I truly believe that the best thing we can do for our students is to give them choice. In order to inspire our students, we need to connect learning in the classroom to real world, future goals and dreams.
