District Seeking Input on 2026-2027 Thanksgiving Break | | At our April 15 Board of Education meeting, we received an update from district leaders about the upcoming process to gather family input regarding Thanksgiving Break for the 2026–2027 school year. This week, a survey was sent to families via Infinite Campus asking whether they support a full week off for students for Thanksgiving, rather than Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The district is considering this adjustment in response to lower student attendance during Thanksgiving week in recent years. Please note that to maintain compliance with academic calendar requirements, if the break is extended, it would likely add one or two days to the start of the school year. The survey will remain open through Wednesday, April 23. | D220 at the Forefront of Developing College and Career Pathways for Students | |
| | At our April 15 meeting, the district's Department of Teaching & Learning presented its annual update to the Board. One area of focus in the presentation included information about College and Career Pathway Endorsements offered in Barrington 220. As part of Illinois's continued commitment to preparing students for success in college, career, and life, the Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR) Act allows school districts to award College and Career Pathway Endorsements on high school diplomas. These endorsements signal that a student has completed a rigorous and intentional course of study aligned with career pathways, providing them with early exposure to career experiences. Barrington 220 is currently developing many pathways for students and has already implemented at least one pathway in each of the seven endorsement areas listed below. In addition, the district has positioned itself as a leader in the Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources career pathway, with nearly half of the state's endorsements in that area received by BHS students at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
- Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
- Health Sciences and Technology
- Information Technology
- Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology, and Trades
- Finance and Business Services
- Arts and Communication
- Human and Public Services
