America Needs More Workers to Achieve Big Things
The December 2024 jobs report, the last before President-elect Trump takes office, reveals a labor market that is much tighter than it was eight years ago before President Trump first took office, but depending on the data point, not quite as tight as it was just before the pandemic.
- Eight years ago, there were more people looking for work than there were open jobs.
- Today there is less than one worker for every job opening in the economy.
Why it matters: The U.S. economy’s capacity to re-shore industries, expand domestic manufacturing, and increase home construction, among other activities, will be limited by a lack of available workers.
What we’re doing: The U.S. Chamber and U.S. Chamber Foundation are helping employers discover and develop talent through the America Works Initiative. For more information, contact Stephanie Ferguson at sferguson@uschamber.com.
Dig deeper: Keep up to date with the latest jobs and workforce data in the America Works Data Center. READ MORE.
