The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well. Last month, we celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month at the New York City Bar Association! We highlighted LegacyMaker Mario L. Baeza, the first Hispanic/Latinx to be promoted to the partner level as an associate in a large New York City law firm, Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP. Mario shared his journey from his wonderful beginnings in Cuba to running The Baeza Group LLC, an entertainment company which produces and distributes educational motion picture and television programming. His team is currently digitizing all of Cuba’s radio and television from the 1920s and 1950s respectively. View our fireside chat with Mario here . Special thanks to our sponsors, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and Sterling National Bank’s Law Firm Banking Group .

We’ve expanded our programming to strengthen the student pipeline! In response to the recommendations in the City Bar’s Sealing the Leaks pipeline report, the Office established the Thurgood Marshall Professional Development Series (TMPDS). TMPDS is designed to help diverse New York City public high school students build vital job-seeking skills through workshops on topics such as resume writing, interviewing, and networking. To volunteer for our TMPDS workshops, please register here .

In addition to creating pathways to success for high school students, we are gearing up for another dynamic year of the Associate Leadership Institute (ALI), our signature program for law firm associates in their 4 th to 8 th year who have been identified by their firm for future leadership. Since 2017, four ALI alums have been promoted to partner and one to of counsel. This year, our Planning Committee will include in-house counsel from Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc., Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, MetLife, Morgan Stanley and Visa just to name a few. Nominations will be open through Friday, December 6, 2019. Nominate your associate today!

We are thrilled to partner with our newest signatories Boies Schiller Flexner LLP and Duane Morris LLP . It is our honor to have the opportunity work with these outstanding firms for years to come!

Finally, Tuesday, December 3, 2019 is Giving Tuesday! Look out for our invitation to support the work we do here! Once again, your donation will support our high school students. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion is a 501(c)(3) and we count on the generous support of our individual donors and sponsoring law firms and corporate legal departments. If you would like to sponsor us, please review our sponsorship packet here. Together, we can #PowerThePipeline!

See you next month!
