Hello everyone!
While many think January to be the start of a new year, I will always consider September to be a time of fresh beginnings, with people settling back into work from their holidays and many young people setting off for their new school terms. In that vein, I’m thrilled about a few new initiatives and offerings that are coming our way this month.
First, I couldn’t be happier about the re-launch of CCDI’s youth program, See Different, which will offer young people the opportunity to become diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) champions in their schools and communities, free of charge. First introduced in 2017, we decided to revitalize and update the program and release it again as a two-part, online DEI training and certification program for youth.
Second, our fall Community of Practice events will start up at the end of September. I look forward to exploring the theme of belonging, and the invaluable topics of allyship, inclusive coaching and intercultural communications. I can’t wait to see many of you in person for the first time in years!
Last, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, a day to commemorate the Indigenous children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Honouring this day and the tragic and painful history and the ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. As such, CCDI will be closing its doors in recognition of this important national day.
Have a great month, and I’ll see you in October!
All the best,
Anne-Marie Pham
