The Third Circuit Court Diversity and Inclusion Team's Mission:

T he Court's Diversity & Inclusion Team strives to ensure the values of its diverse bench, staff, and court users are acknowledged and reflected in our delivery of service as well as our work environment.
 
In that spirit, the team creates and shares a monthly list of various holidays and observations along with some celebration suggestions. We invite our work community and the community at large to contribute.

As the ninth month of the year, September marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere. September has three birth flowers: the forget-me-not, the morning glory and the aster. Forget-me-nots represent love and memories, asters represent love as well, and the morning glory represents unrequited love. September's birthstone is the sapphire.

September has several United States and international holidays.
  • Labor Day (first Monday of September), Native American Day (fourth Friday of September), Grandparent's Day (first Sunday after Labor Day), Constitution Day (September 17)
  • September 2, 1666: the Great Fire of London
  • September 1, 1939: In the early morning hours of this day, Hitler invaded Poland, starting WWII in Europe.
  • September 8, 1974 POTUS Gerald Ford gave an unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon for his role in "The Watergate fiasco."

 

Tuesday morning September 11, 2001, The Twin Towers in New York City were hit by one plane each. More than 3,000 people lost their lives during one of the deadliest attacks on U. S. soil to date. This event changed travel in the United States and all over the world forever.
