Gallo School Pre-Proposal Moves Forward!

The pre-proposal for the Ernest & Julio Gallo School of Management is currently undergoing campus review. We hope the pre-proposal will move to UC System review in Spring 2021. See recent campus news about the Gallo School pre-proposal.

As part of the campus review, all faculty in the three schools will be asked to vote on the proposal. We will soon ask for your help to promote the Gallo School plan to your colleagues on campus.
Master of Data Science and Analytics Proposal Ready for Faculty Review
For the past few months, a group of faculty - Christian Fons-Rosen, Dan Hicks, Alex Petersen, John Abatzoglou, Rowena Gray, Hanna Gunn, Andrew Johnston, Crystal Kolden, and Lace Padilla - has been putting together a proposal for a new self-supporting graduate professional degree program, Master of Data Science and Analytics, to be the first new program in the proposed Gallo School. You can check out the proposal - and check your email for a ballot to vote on it.
Gallo School Academic Planning in Progress

Phase II of the campus's Academic Planning process is underway. The Gallo Core Planning Team/Executive Committee has drafted our Phase II plan. This plan will be reviewed and revised over the year - and your input will be important. Stay tuned for how to help...
Gallo School Initiative Meeting Update

On August 25, 2020, we held our first remote Gallo School Initiative Meeting. Chancellor Muñoz joined the meeting and shared his enthusiastic support for the proposed Gallo School. If you missed it, you can watch the recording of the meeting.

LeRoy Westerling has been named an honoree in this year's WIRED25, a series that celebrates 25 innovators who are using technology to lead society through this period of global uncertainty and pointing the way to a safer future.

Andrew Johnston (EBM) was featured in the Wall Street Journal for his work on the long-term impact of the pandemic unemployment payments on taxes and society.

Catherine Keske (MCS) is the campus lead of a new Engineering Research Center (ERC) award, NSF ERC for the Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag), the first ERC for UC Merced!

Lace Padilla (CIS) talks about how and why she teaches data visualization in Nightingale, the Journal of the Data Visualization Society.

Tracey Osborne (MCS), who joined in January 2020, was awarded the UC Merced Presidential Chair in Management of Complex Systems.

Colin Holbrook (CIS) was recently awarded a three-year grant by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research for "Trust in Machine Agents Under Realistic Threat."

The Division of Management and Information precedes the proposed Ernest and Julio Gallo School of Management at UC Merced, which if approved will combine the Departments of Cognitive and Information Sciences, Management and Business Economics, and Management of Complex Systems to focus on the complexity of real-world problems and systems; the need to gather and analyze data and information in real time; behavior and management of individuals, firms, institutions, and economies; and sustainability of coupled human-natural systems.
