NOVELUTION for IRB Submissions is Coming

Researchers will soon submit IRB projects through the university-wide Novelution platform, a research management system. This launch is anticipated to open in Spring 2023.

Florida Atlantic University’s Office of Sponsored Programs module was the first to be released by Novelution. A key feature of the integrated system includes specifically designed modules to meet the needs of FAU faculty, staff, and research administration.

Novelution will serve a centralized research management system with administrative and compliance functions, allowing researchers to access their projects for sponsored programs, FCOI, and IRB all in one location.

Unique features to Novelution include side-by-side comparison of changes made during the revision process, the ability to copy a project to tweak when creating a new similar project, and housing all materials, revisions and submissions in one project rather than in separate packages.

Next steps for researchers:
• If a project has been completed, submit project closures in IRBNet
• Prepare to save project documents in IRBNet if you are planning to continue the study or wish to
access materials from Exempt projects not requiring closure.

FCOI Novelution System Updates

If you missed or are not part of The Research Administrator’s Network (TRAIN), see below for updates to the Financial Conflict of Interest Committee (FCOI) Novelution system.

Personnel Panel:
 
If you have administrative access to the personnel panel on Sponsored Research records, you can now see additional columns describing the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) FCOI completion status and expiration date as well as the status of the Project- specific Disclosure (PSD) review. See below for a breakdown of the different statuses.
 
Not Submitted – A Project-specific Disclosure (PSD) is required but the researcher has not completed and/or submitted it for review
 
Not Required – The researcher does not have any active entities to disclose and thus does not need to complete a PSD
 
Under Departmental Review – The researcher has submitted a disclosure but the researcher’s college signature authority has not signed off. The FCOI has NOT received this disclosure. Disclosures are not routed for FCOI review until all appropriate signatures have been received.
 
Under FCOI Review – An FCOI member was assigned to review this disclosure
 
Disclosure Completed – The submitted disclosure has been reviewed and approved by the FCOI
Routing Panel:
The "Project-specific Disclosure for X" requirement in the Proposal Stage/Status section of the
Sponsored Research Record in Novelution has three states:
 
Not Ready - This indicates that this step has not yet been reached and the researcher has not been asked to submit a Project-specific Disclosure.
 
Ready - This indicates that this step is in progress. This step includes submission of a Project-specific Disclosure, Departmental review of the disclosure, and FCOI review of the disclosure.
 
Completed - This indicates that review of the researcher's Project-specific Disclosure is completed. This is also the status for researchers that do not require Project-specific Disclosures.
Please note that the status of the Project-specific Disclosure for X task will remain in the "Ready" state while it is under review by the department and while it is under review by the FCOI Committee. A "Ready" state does not indicate that the PI has not submitted a Project-specific Disclosure.
Congratulations to Sylvia Gografe, D.V.M., Ph.D., on her R24 grant titled “Enhancing Animal Welfare and Reproducibility of Biomedical Research at FAU,” which was awarded a Research Infrastructure Program, Equipment grant for $387,383.

This grant will go toward equipment to help researchers and demonstrates Gografe’s commitment to the growth of the research program at FAU and her support of our researchers.
