Closing time, you don't have to close your IRB projects but they can't stay here.

The IRBNet portal will permanently close in December 2026 after accepting new submissions in August 2023. IRBNet has been in maintenance mode for three years to provide researchers with time to save their research documents before the platform becomes inaccessible. The Research Integrity office will also lose access to IRBNet after the contract ends in December 2026.

IRBNet projects should transition to IRB Novelution if they are: Amendments, Continuing Reviews, or Progress Reports.

Note, after making any submission type in Novelution, please make sure to log off or navigate away from the project page to prevent any delays in the review process.

If you keep the project page open or log back in just before a reviewer does, the IRB administrators and reviewers won’t be able to approve or return your project, because the system disables those functions when someone else is already working on the project.

New, expanded content and workshop materials coming this fall semester. The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) program revamp will include:

• Robust website updates
• Creative new content and contemporary case studies
• Rebranded flyer and templates

The Fall workshop series will take place in person this September on the FAU Boca campus and in October on the MPFI Jupiter campus and will be open to anyone at either institution to attend at either location. Registration will be available soon, so be on the lookout for announcements or on our Research Integrity Training Calendar page.

Hot town, summer in the CITI

CITI’s new required course, the Research Security Training course “provides information on risks and threats to the global research ecosystem — and the knowledge and tools necessary to protect against these risks. It discusses the key concepts of research security, disclosure, risk management and mitigation and international collaboration.”

This new training requirement comes from the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation which have begun implementing research security training requirements for all “covered individuals” who are contributing substantively to federal research projects. 

FAU is interpreting “covered individuals” to mean all senior key personnel. This means all senior key personnel listed on a Department of Energy proposal application will be required to complete the research security training prior to proposal submission. The training can be completed online through the CITI Training Program.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new members of the Division of Research, Dr. Nicole Compo who is the new Attending Veterinarian. And Robbie Champion, the new Director of Comparative Medicine. 

Dr. Nicole Compo joins us as the new Attending Veterinarian. A native Floridian and FAU alumna, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from Florida Atlantic University in 2008, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida. She then completed a Doctor of Veterinary Science in Pathobiology at the University of Guelph in Ontario, specializing in laboratory animal medicine. Dr. Compo became a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine in 2019. Her previous roles include serving as an Adjunct Professor at the Caribbean Primate Research Center in Puerto Rico and as Associate Director of Comparative Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Robbie Champion joins as the new Director of Comparative. Robbie earned his Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) credentials at the Yerkes National Primate Center (now Emory National Primate Center). He went on to earn his Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) certification in 2010 and received the AAALAC International Fellowship in 2015. In 2024, he completed a Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) from Drexel University. He is also an active contributor to the field having served or serving on various committees such as AALAS CMAR Committee, Laboratory Animal Management Association (LAMA), on the Board of Directors for the Northern California branch of AALAS, and as a Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) Champion since 2020.
