MULTICULTURAL CENTER IN THE MU
Have you checked out the MCC in the MU? The Division of Student Affairs staff are encouraged to visit the Memorial Union’s Multicultural Center and to utilize this space to engage with students both formally and informally. A divisional priority is to further advance the student footprint and engagement in the Center. There are a variety of resources available, including a multipurpose room that can be reserved. The primary mission of the Multicultural Center is to develop a sense of community between students, staff, and faculty of color on the Iowa State University campus. The overall intent of the Center is to create an environment where awareness of one's cultural identity and a deeper understanding and respect of others' differences with respect to culture, are readily accepted and embraced. More information about the center and how to plan an event in the space can be found here

CARE Recognition is an ongoing recognition for Committed • Accomplished • Responsive • Engaged Division of Student Affairs staff. It is a great way to send kudos to a colleague for a job well done! Staff submitted for recognition will receive their nomination via email (supervisor copied) and may be included in the division newsletter, social media, and at events. Questions can be sent to Katy Cran at [email protected].
Jamie Niman, Accessibility Coordinator, Student Accessibility Services

Their nominator said:
"Jamie continues to go above and beyond in their care for students and ensuring our processes are serving all students in ways that are accessible and just. Recently a student and their family went out of their way to share with a staff member in another office the following: “When meeting with them, they shared that you have truly made their experience at ISU what it is. That you have been “an absolute God-send” and that they truly wouldn’t be where they are without you. They also shared that you are “stuck with them” and if you ever leave ISU, they are going wherever you go because of the help, support and guidance you have provided them. When I was meeting with this student, they had their mother on the phone, and she echoed all of the same things. They were both so, so grateful to you and your support.”
Wellness Breaks
Division of Student Affairs staff are encouraged to dedicate 30 minutes each month to focus on their wellbeing. Staff can build this dedicated time into their schedule proactively and is not intended to replace breaks staff already receive nor it is a time to catch up on work. The purpose is for staff to engage in something that will help with their current state of wellbeing. This individualized approach can help staff focus on what's most important to them. Resources and opportunities are available in this CyBox.
