women and to raise funds for Cornerstone Foundation.
As we rejoice in the Diwali festivities, let us all continue to
remember and support the victims
of the Pakistan Floods. You can show your support by
attending a special fundraising show on October 15, "A Moment for
Pakistan" organized by PSA uOttawa in collaboration with PSA
Carleton, CUBSA and the students of Ottawa.
As

community was no exception - these were there the driving forces
behind the creation of the Gujarati Cultural Association.

2010 Canadian Festival
of Spoken Word
The Canadian Festival of Spoken Word is an annual event produced by Spoken
Word Canada and planned by a local Festival Organizing Committee in
each host city. It has been held every year since its founding as
the Canadian Spoken Wordlympics in Ottawa in 2004.
CFSW 2010 Ottawa will be the largest slam-focused event in
Canadian history. Poets from coast to coast will converge here to
share experiences, perform, slam, exchange ideas and put on an
amazing poetic display.
Some of Canada's most talented
spoken word artists will be here, so you don't want to miss
this five-day celebration of stage poetry - Canadian slam
style!

Moment for Pakistan |

A Moment for
Pakistan
PSA uOttawa in collaboration with PSA Carleton, CUBSA and students
of Ottawa invite you to: A Moment for Pakistan (a fundraising show for the flood
victims).
In July 2010 several regions of Pakistan endured major flooding
leaving over 21 million people
injured and homeless, half of which are children! The number
of people affected exceeds the total of the 2005 Pakistan
earthquake, the Haiti earthquake, and the Indonesian tsunami...
COMBINED!
Help make a difference by
raising donations for the flood victims of Pakistan. This variety
show is dedicated to raising awareness by uniting the
community through multicultural music and dance.
All proceeds from this event will
go directly to the flood victims in Pakistan in order to help them
rebuild their home.
This event is open to all, and prizes will be given out
throughout the evening as well as food will be sold!

for Diabetes Research |
RIDE for Diabetes
Research
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Ride for Diabetes Research
is the most exciting and
unique fundraising event in
the country. This fast paced and energetic event brings corporate
Canada together in a friendly competition to see who can clock the
most kilometres, show the most
spirit and raise the most money.
Teams consist of five Riders, and on event day each Team Member
will alternate riding a stationary bike for eight minutes each over
the course of 40 minutes. Teams ride in one hour intervals so it
fits into any schedule. Participants return
year-after-year because the Ride for Diabetes Research is
highly motivating, a great team building event and a tonne of
fun.
You can be a part of the excitement by forming a Ride Team with your
company. All team members must raise a minimum of $125 in
pledge donations to participate.
Select Ride locations offer additional onsite incentives to
VIP Riders who individually raise $1,000 or more and, to Elite
Teams achieving a minimum cumulative total of $2,500.

DHADKAN invites you to
their 8th Annual Fundraising Event!
Dhadkan (or "Heartbeat" in Hindi) is a community-based organization
that in partnership with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute
raises both awareness and funds for the Institute. It is
known that as many as one out of three people in Ottawa will
require the services of the Heart
Institute during their lifetime, and the odds become even
higher for members of the Indo-Canadian community.
Statistics show that Indo-Canadians suffer from higher incidences of heart
disease than the general population. Therefore, Dhadkan has
made it their priority to be a player in the elimination of heart
disease and has contributed over
$6 million in the last seven years towards research and
treatment programs.

part of the Ontario Government's "Aging at Home" strategy,
presented by the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization,
the Jewish Family Services of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Sikh Community
Services.
This project is aimed to support seniors with complex needs at
home.
