Spring 2022
Hello Dixie Road neighbourhood,
We sent a newsletter in 2019 to let you know that we were expecting to start construction in the area. Like many other things, it was put on hold due to COVID.

We have now re-started our work.
What to expect this year
  • Construction will take place along Dixie Road between Queen Street and Mayfield road. (See map below).

  • The Region will be replacing noise walls and improving the East Brampton Pumping Station.

  • After completing the above activities, we will be installing new watermains and widening Dixie road (including new multi-use trails).
Noise wall replacement
The noise walls along Dixie Road between Queen Street and Bovaird Drive, and some sections between Bovaird Drive and Countryside Drive, need to be replaced.

The existing wooden walls will be replaced with concrete walls (like the one shown in the picture below).

The installation of the noise walls began in March on the east side of Dixie road, between Queen Street and Springtown Trail. See below for the tentative timing for the remaining noise wall replacements.

Timing: Spring 2022 – Fall 2026

East side of Dixie Road from north of Queen Street to Springtown Trail
  • March 2022 to December 2022.

West side of Dixie Road from north of Queen Street to Bovaird Drive
  • Spring 2024 to December 2024.

East and part of the west side of Dixie Road from Springtown Trail to south of Countryside Drive
  • Spring 2025 to 2026.

East Brampton Pumping Station
We are expanding and improving the East Brampton Pumping Station and Reservoir on Nanport Road.

Upgrades will include building modifications and expansions, reservoir upgrades, the construction of an overflow pond as well as landscape improvements and restoration.

The work will be done in stages to maintain the water supply and minimize impacts to the surrounding community.

Timing: Winter 2022 – Winter 2026

Upcoming watermain and road improvements
We are still in the planning stages for the watermain construction and road widening in this area. The following gives an approximate timeline, however we will let you know our plans closer to construction.
Watermains
We must upgrade our drinking water system as Brampton continues to mature and grow.
To help meet this need, and to maintain a constant water supply for the community, we are improving two water pumping stations and building new watermains between them.

We will install new watermains by tunnelling.

  • Tunneling will begin at Heart Lake Road, just south of Glidden Road ( at the Beckett Sproule Reservoir and Pumping Station,) watermain construction will then continue from the pumping station towards Clark Boulevard,
  • Tunneling will then continue east along Clark Boulevard from Heart Lake Road to Dixie Road,
  • The final section will be installeed by tunneling north from Dixie Road towards North Park Drive.

Because the work is primarily underground, we won’t cut long trenches in the road. We will work in construction compounds (like the one shown in the picture below) at key locations. These compounds will be located in the boulevards, and there will be lane reductions around the compound areas.

Timing: Summer 2022 – Fall 2028

Road widening
Dixie Road is a main north-south route and is very busy at certain times of the day. To keep traffic moving safely, we are widening the road in three stages.

From just North of Mayfield Road towards Countryside Drive:
  • 2 lanes to 4 lanes starting in summer 2023.

Countryside Drive to Bovaird Drive:
  • 4 lanes to 6 lanes lanes starting in 2025.

Bovaird Drive to Queen Street:
  • 4 lanes to 6 lanes lanes starting in 2027.

Multi-use trails
We will also be installing multi-use trails along Dixie Road in this area for community activities such as walking, skateboarding, rollerblading or cycling.

Restoring the area when we're finished
We know that construction work can be messy and appreciate your patience while we do these necessary and important improvements. This includes removing some trees. We are coordinating our efforts so that once an area is finished it will be restored temporarily.

Once all the work is complete we will plant new trees and landscape.

We’re planning a green space similar to the sketch below for the corner of Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard. Please note that this is a preliminary artist’s concept.
