MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

While many home-grown, Delaware-based businesses operate solely within the state or surrounding tri-state area, many have a growing regional, national and in some cases, international presence. For most, this is a topic that rarely comes up. However, with the Port of Wilmington as part of our state infrastructure, selling into markets you have not previously considered is a growing possibility. Most Delawareans know about the fresh fruits and vegetable imports that traverse through the port, but do you know much about the exports Delaware businesses send elsewhere? Canada is our most frequent trading partner, but there are others.

Just recently I received a letter from the U.S. State Department. The correspondence was coauthored by the U.S Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, and State. The opening sentence stated, “We encourage you to help us strengthen trade and investment with Taiwan. We have received many inquiries about how private companies can work with Taiwan, and we hope this letter will answer those questions.” Foreign trade may be something to consider, and this letter suggests that Taiwan is open to that possibility today for many foreign policy related reasons. Here is a copy of the letter and resources you might consider if foreign sales is appropriate and appealing to your business.

News You Can Use

The economic news for the week gets started on Tuesday with the release of the consumer price index results from February. The NFIB Optimism index for February is also out Tuesday morning. February retail sales figures are released Wednesday morning, as is the producer price index and January business inventories data. Thursday brings us housing starts and building permits from February and an early look at the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing data from March. We end the week on Friday with U.S. leading economic indicators results from February and consumer sentiment for March.

GitLab and Kodiak Sciences start the week off Monday with earnings calls. Homebuilding headliner Lennar will host their call on Tuesday, as will Guess? and SentinelOne. Adobe kicks things off on Wednesday and is joined by Five Below and UiPath. FedEx, Dollar General, Titan Machinery, Traeger, and Williams-Sonoma join the others the remainder of the week.
