DO SOMETHING GRAND – ENGAGE ANOTHER GENERATION
It is always a pleasant surprise when an older relative, friend, or neighbor receives your unexpected call or visit. So, in the spirit of Grandparents Day, take a grand step and lift the spirits of a few others.

Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day. While many use the day to honor their parents’ parents, the founder wanted to plan a celebration for the older adults in her community.

We know that many residing in nursing facilities have few visitors. And social isolation from COVID-19 is as contagious as the disease itself. Many seniors are alone, and your simple connection can enhance their sense of Belonging, one of our greatest human needs.

Use today to bridge the generations.
Here's a special message from Mr. Paul Bridgewater, former President and CEO of DAAA for all the grandparents working hard to be grand.
Encourage a child to call a neighbor in addition to a long-distance grandparent. Remember a former teacher, co-worker, or pastor. When you see older adults working in groceries, pharmacies, or fast-food places, share a big smile to affirm them. Being and doing are also human needs.

Our work at the Detroit Area Agency on Aging helps older adults to Be, Belong and Do. For us, every day is a grand occasion to serve older adults. Today, let’s salute the resilience, adaptability, and productivity we learned from them. They’ve given us grand examples!
