Explore your own back yard and do something new! Take a levee top trail or explore the Atchafalaya Basin (see the Water Heritage info below). You’ll find historic beauty, from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church to architectural gems in Addis. Learn something new – like blacksmithing through the West Baton Rouge Museum! Westside Waterways

West Baton Rouge is “On the River. On the Way.” The Mighty Mississippi looms large, but waterways run from bayous to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. You can access a boat launch near the Port Allen Lock or in “back Brusly” near Morley Marina to explore. The Port Allen Lock also boasts as an Atchafalaya Heritage Trail Site! Explore our waterways, along the bank or by boat!

While we won't be heading out to parades this year, we can celebrate Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) with a season of feasting before the Lenten time of fasting and reflection. We have several spots to get king cakes, including a boudin variety from The Poboy House for ordering. Check out bakeries on our dining page as well as so many locations for amazing dining on the Westside.
