Fall R.E.S.E.T. - Resetting Work Goals & Habits

By LaShondra P. Manning, PhD, LPC-S, NCC

Assistant Professor of Counseling at Tarleton State University

The calendar may still say summer, but kids are back to school, gas prices have declined, and vacations are ending. Now it’s time to R.E.S.E.T. at work:

R stands for Reignite. Reignite YOUR Passion for YOUR job!

E stands for Emotions. Be aware of YOUR emotions in every moment!

S stands for Set Goals. Based upon everything you have read so far, what new goals can you set?

E stands for Experience the Present Moment. Oftentimes, we focus on past mistakes. Learn from those mistakes and move on.

T stands for Time Management. Schedule ahead of time and categorize your priorities in different colors.

Four Thousand Weeks

Time Management for Mortals

by Oliver Burkeman

Assuming you live to be 80, you have just over four thousand weeks. We’re obsessed with our lengthy to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem. In this book, Burkeman addresses the challenge of how best to use our four thousand weeks. Learn more here.

"Leap" Into Multi-Sensory Art

Murals come to life, music plays, and stories are told of a bygone neighborhood. It’s all part of Neighborhood Leap, an augmented reality experience that allows you to engage with public art in a new way. The art walk starts next to Amphibian Stage (210 S. Main) which collaborated with artists and other partners to present the innovative project. It traverses .6 miles throughout South Main Village. In just a 30-minute walk, you’ll encounter over 20 works of art, plus parks, shops and eateries. Blue Zones Project is supporting the exhibit as it aligns with multiple Power 9 principles for well-being, such as moving naturally, downshifting, and social connections. Download the Neighborhood Leap app on your phone (available for both Android and iOS platforms) before your visit.

Add 988 To Your Directory

Just like 911 and 411, there is now an easier way to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Calling 988 instantly connects you to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which provides 24/7 confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or mental health-related distress. This is an important step forward in strengthening and supporting crisis care in our communities.
