Do You Relive Your Sliding Doors Moments?

Greetings!

Do you relive your sliding doors moments? The “what if” times that could have changed the course of your life. What would life be like if you had stood up for yourself, had the courage to say “yes” to a wild opportunity which scared you then but now seems a missed chance?

Or simply saying “I love you” to someone who is no longer around?

I wonder if my husband hadn’t passed away quickly and unexpectedly 3 months and 3 weeks and 3 days ago (yes I really do count the days) if I would’ve, could’ve relished and appreciated him more, hugged even harder and never ever again taken time and it’s fragility for granted. Nothing is promised.

We can be moved and changed by the things we chose to do. But also by the decisions we chose not to take as well.  These “what if” or “if only” scenarios can easily morph into regrets and that is a sad legacy of life of not acting in courage, integrity or in shame or fear.

A life lived well is trusting you are making the right decisions and doing your best by yourself and others even if it’s tough and hard going sometimes. It’s prioritising what is important in life – family friends, fun, creativity, connection, growth for me and actively honouring it each day.

Regrets, I’ve Had a Few

Here are some common life moments we all could’ve done differently with hindsight:

  • Staying in a relationship or job way too long when you knew you wanted out
  • Letting friendships slide
  • Being afraid to ask for more or better
  • Thinking you have plenty of time to play with
  • Using excuses to cover fear of risk
  • Not “showing up” for yourself when you needed to
  • It never being the “right time” to make the move
  • Blaming other people for your unhappiness/luck/health
  • Thinking you’re not good enough
  • Letting other people lead (being the passenger)
  • Trying to please others by playing small or putting them first
  • Not using envy as a call to arms to make changes
  • Not using a coach earlier

Don’t let regrets and if-only’s be your pension plan. Reach out to old pals, join a new course in September (see below), grow, reach and excel – even it’s to make each day the very best it can be.

Remember regret and irony? Best friends since forever 😊
