"TEN TIPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT SHOES"
Do you remember Buster Brown's? July  2015

Do you remember going to your local shoe store as a kid and getting fitted for a pair of shoes?  It was unheard of in our childhood to walk into a shoe store and pick out your own size, or pull up to a gas station and pump your own gas. It is 2015, but some ideas of the past worked well and should be a part of our present. Ideally, every time you invest in a pair of shoes, both feet should be measured. Feet grow and change throughout your entire life. It is not just length and width that changes, the height of the arch, the thickness of the padding and even the shape will be dynamic.

Foot pain is a problem that affects everyone sooner or later. In some cases, medical conditions play a role in foot pain. In other cases, it can be as simple as having worn a shoe that is the wrong size, or not the right shape for your foot, with insufficient cushion, or with inappropriate support.

Today, approximately 90% of all people wear improperly fitted shoes!

How to Keep Your Feet in Good Shape
This was a popular post on Foot Solutions Facebook Page," How to Keep Your Feet In Good Shape This Summer". Fix dry or cracked heels from the inside out, by alleviating the friction from the bone onto a flat, hard surface.  In the article a researcher said, "callused skin that can form on the back of your heels or the bottom of your feet can become very painful. The reason we form these problems on the heel of our feet is because that is the strike zone. The friction from the bones in our feet rubbing against a solid object such as the floor or a flat sandal puts the full force of weight on that area. The force of the bones grinding into whatever surfaces you walk on is what causes the skin problems on your feet." Absorbable lotion or coconut oil can help with the symptoms, but heal the heel at the source of the problem.

Five Tips for Everyone

and Five More Tips for People

with Special Concerns

1. Shoes need to match the shape of the feet. A pointed toe box is not suitable for a wide foot.

2.To provide stability, footwear should have as much contact as possible with the ground.

3.Shoe materials play an important role as well. Synthetic lining materials that don't breath contribute to a warm, damp environment for the foot, which can lead to blisters, fungi, and infection. Synthetics are seldom best for the upper part of the shoe because they are not as forgiving as leather. Good shoe designers know how to put the leather together, so the shoe will stretch in the same direction as the foot, from side to side.

4. Shop in the afternoon, after your foot had time to naturally expand. This will ensure you get proper width, and do not find the balls of your feet compressed as the day goes on.

5. Shoes that provide some shock absorption and cushioning. Shoe construction is critical to ensure proper support. Shoe should have sturdy

shank in the mid-sole and a firm heel counter.

6 If you have plantar fasciitis, and inflammation of the thick tissue

on the bottom of the foot, it calls for a supportive, stable shoe. Most people with plantar fasciitis improve with some orthotic intervention, such as an arch support or a heel lift.

7 Forefoot problems, such as bunions, hammer toes, and metatarsal pain, need a higher, wider toe box and a shock - absorbent sole.

8Arthritic conditions of the midfoot can be painful. The shoe needs to improve stabilization and support, and allow the whole foot to touch the floor. Patients need a shoe that can be modified within.

9. The goal of diabetic shoes is to accommodate the foot to eliminate

any areas of high pressure. Preferably soft leathers which will mold to subtle changes within the foot. Fewer seams also present fewer opportunities for aggravating the skin.

10.  The most important thing to consider. How does the shoe feel on your foot?
Do you remember when you'd pull up to a gas station and the attendant would wash the windows and check the tires, while pumping your gas. We need to relearn the value of taking good care of our tires and of our feet, because both will get us to where we want to go. Allow our highly trained, expert certified staff  assist you in finding the right shoe for you.
