The Sweet Smell of Good Health VitaDrip & Wellness Spa opens in Dallas
By Eva D. Coleman
Lifestyle & Culture Editor
You can get hooked on this stuff! While we constantly hear “Self-care is the best care,” VitaDrip & Wellness Spa in Dallas delivers an environment that helps get you there. “I just feel so free,” Adrienne Christian said. “I think I want to go home and go to bed.” Christian and others sat calmly and relaxed on stools at the bar. The lights were low with a hint of blue. Each person that came in was hesitant to leave. Many giggled at one woman who proudly exclaimed she liked “Sex on the Beach” the best.

OUR VOICES
Give Light And People Will Find The Way
|
By Marian Wright Edelman
Earlier this year, members of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom Schools team and other colleagues had opportunity to attend a training session near the plantation on Maryland’s Eastern Shore where Harriet Tubman was enslaved and where she returned again and again after her own escape to lead others to freedom. The retreat’s theme was “Give Light and People Will Find the Way,” the title indomitable civil rights movement justice warrior Ella Baker used for one of her training workshops at the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee.

As family, friends, and fans, continue to mourn the death of Migos member Takeoff, the demand for hip-hop to take a stand against gun violence has grown. While many have expressed disbelief and anger that the shooting death of the 28-year-old, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, took place allegedly because of an argument over a dice game. Fans on social media and the mainstream press have quickly tossed blame at everyone from Takeoff’s bandmate Quavo to clothing boss J. Prince Jr. and even to the slain rap star himself.

Former Mayor of Dallas/U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk Endorses Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson for Re-Election
|
Ron Kirk, the former Mayor of Dallas and United States Trade Representative, has endorsed Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson for re-election. “Eric Johnson has done a great job leading our city. His consensus-building approach has brought the city council together to achieve real results for every neighborhood in Dallas. Everything he set out to do when he was elected — including reducing crime, reforming our city’s ethics code, and lowering the tax rate — he has done,” said Ambassador Ron Kirk, who served as Mayor of Dallas from 1995 to 2002.

Will Dallas ever learn? Springing homeless facility on Oak Cliff was terrible idea
Residents and DISD trustee are worried by its proximity to an elementary school, library and Kiest Park.
|
By Sharon Grigsby
For crying out loud, Dallas, you can do better than this. We don’t expect perfection from a City Hall this big and with this many moving parts. But in what universe is this even acceptable? Yet another homeless facility has been sprung on an unsuspecting community, this time near Oak Cliff’s Kiest Park and Brashear Elementary. Despite the multitude of past failures and broken trust — invariably followed by pledges around the horseshoe to do better next time — elected leaders and city staff have learned nothing.

Because Of Them We Can
By BOTWC Staff
Like most parents these days, Kourtney Marsh, founder and CEO of Free Your Curls, wanted to try the new TikTok dance with the help of her little one. Baby Jayce, her toddler, held the tripod while mom practiced her moves. Doing the TikTok choreography to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” Jayce didn’t take his job as cameraman lightly! Encouraging her with every step, Marsh was brought to tears to see how proud he was of her efforts.

Research Finds Black Californians Prioritize Health, While System Fails to Prioritize Black Californians
NNPA Newswire/BlackPressUSA
Oakland Post
By Maxim Elramsisy | California Black Media
The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) has released a study that found Black
Californians are highly engaged with their health care, are active in advocating for their health and have strong and clear opinions about how the healthcare system can be improved. “I think it’s surprising because of the pervasive myths about noncompliance among Black patients,” said Shakari Byerly, managing partner of EVITARUS, a Los Angeles based Black-owned public opinion research firm who designed, conducted and analyzed the research. “The fact is that our traditional foods may not be as healthy. While that may have some degree of anecdotal resonance, what we’re seeing broadly is that people are working very hard.”

The Path
As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
