Do what you love

Summer undergraduate research & travel awards

Hello CBS,

Author Ray Bradbury once said, “Do what you love and love what you do.” We couldn’t agree more! For today’s Valentine’s message, let’s talk about your love of biology.

Are you doing what you love and loving what you are doing? Do you want to do MORE of it via funded research or travel in Summer 2024? The CBS Dean’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and Travel Awards offer an incredible opportunity that awaits you this summer. (You can see last year's SURP scholars here.)

The SURP awards, each valued at $7,000, present a unique chance for you to immerse yourself in hands-on research alongside your esteemed faculty members. Whether your interests lie in molecular biology, genetics, ecology, or any other area within the life sciences, SURP awards provide you with invaluable experience and mentorship.

The Alys Hay Travel Award and the Gary D. Hori STEM Award offer between $2,000-$5,000 for CBS students to attend conferences, workshops, courses, and other academic or professional ventures that will help advance your skills, knowledge, and network in the biological sciences.

But here's the catch - the application deadline is fast approaching! You have just 7 days left to submit your application and seize this opportunity.

Why should you apply?

  1. Financial Support: Each SURP or Travel Award provides funds to support your summer research project, allowing you to focus wholeheartedly on doing what you love.
  2. Professional Development: Engage in meaningful research or activities that align with your academic interests, gain hands-on experience, and refine your skills under the guidance of experienced mentors.
  3. Personal Growth: Challenge yourself, push your boundaries, and unlock your potential as you tackle real-world scientific problems and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the life sciences.

So, what are you waiting for?

Seize the moment to do what you LOVE. Submit your application before the (extended) deadline, Wednesday, February 21, 2024 @ 11:59 pm.
