In short, the brief shows there is no causal link between women's rising economic, social and political opportunities and successes and the availability of abortion following Roe's ruling in 1973.
A question we will discuss, among others, is whether capitalism and corporate greed incentivize or quietly coerce abortion because of the lack of adequate maternity leave, childcare, and other benefits?
This injustice was portrayed in the film Blonde, a tragic retelling of the story of Marilyn Monroe based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates. While the film is a fictionalized biopic, Planned Parenthood criticized the film's portrayal of her many personal sufferings because of the forced abortions she suffered. Is this a credible criticism of the film? Do we, as women, feel pressured to choose between parenting and career? If so, how and why?
We hope to see you on November 6th for a lively discussion of sexualization, exploitation and abortion in various professional arenas.
Your participation helps raise awareness and understanding- so we can progress for LIFE!
Thank you!
