Change your pH
If allergies bother you one of the factors (why) is the pH in your bloodstream. One thing you can do is strive to make 80% of your meals acid-binding and use the other 20% for your protein choices. Next, improve the pH from acid to alkaline conditions by drinking this cocktail each morning:

Combine in a glass:

1 Tbsp Braggs ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
the juice of 1/2 lemon
4-6 ounces water
3 drops Stevia

 Stir and drink slowly

Essential Oils for Allergy Congestion
Your Stuffy Nose
As an aromatherapist I look at the chemical families of essential oils because they provide the healing qualities in your essential oil blend. You may have heard of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, esters and oxides. They are chemical families which have been researched extensively for their benefits. To help with nasal congestion you want to look for oils that are calming (like sesquiterpenes), anti-inflammatory (monoterpenes and several others) and supportive to the respiratory system (oxides).

Dorado Azul One of my favorite essential oils is Dorado Azul (Hyptis suaveolens) which contains these chemical families: monoterpenes (decongesting), monoterpenols (healing to the nervous system), and an oxide (opens sinuses). This makes Dorado Azul a fantastic oil to choose for allergy congestion. What you can do:
  • Run a diffuser with Dorado Azul - try 20 minute periods twice a day
  • Pour about 6 drops of Dorado Azul and 6 drops Lavender over some Aroma-Spheres and place on your desk/counter
  • Make an essential oil inhaler with Dorado Azul for your purse or pocket (10-12 drops on the cotton wick)
  • Use 1-2 drops Dorado Azul on a Kleenex and inhale as needed

There are many wonderful essential oils you can use for allergy symptoms. For nasal congestion you can also apply Young Living's handy 'Breathe roll-on Breathe AgainAgain' roll-on: diluted in coconut oil this blend contains four Eucalyptus oils, Laurel leaf, Peppermint, Copaiba, Myrtle, and Blue Cypress. Rolling it over your neck, chest and chin can help open your sinuses as well.

One more option for nasal congestion during allergy season is to make an essential oil lotion or massage oil blend to apply twice a day directly on your arms, legs, neck and chest. Try this recipe: Combine:

  • One ounce base lotion or massage oil
  • 3 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • 2 drops Saro (Cinnamosma fragrans)
  • 2 drops Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis)
  • 2 drops Elemi (Canarium luzonicum)
  • 1 drop Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
  • 1 drop Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia)

Mix well and apply liberally to the skin each morning. Re-apply before bed as desired to improve sleep.

Common Sense Help for Allergies
How to stop itchy eyes & sneezing
There are many common-sense ways to improve your well-being during allergy season. The first one that always comes to mind is to think again about what you're eating. The side bar includes a chart for acid-binding vs. acid-forming foods but it's really simple: Increase your vegetables (all colors of the rainbow - and don't forget leafy greens) for better health, more nutrients, vitamins and minerals and fewer allergy symptoms. As much as possible avoid alcohol, caffeine, dairy, chocolate, sugar and wheat. They contribute to worsening symptoms.

Other common-sense things to include every day: increase your water intake (8-10 eight ounce glasses per day), make sure you get essential fatty acids (Omega 3 supplement or Flaxseed) and take a good probiotic.

I am not an expert in these other fields but would seek them out if my suggestions were unsuccessful. They include: homeopathic remedies, accupressure/accupuncture and herbal medicines (teas & tinctures).

Come see me for an aromatherapy consultation & I will make you an essential oil blend for your allergies! Call 585-872-6242
