GA to Launch New Platform

On the heels of a summer replete with internal discussion, market testing and technical wizardry, the Green Alliance is set to launch a new sub-brand called the Naked Bullfrog.  If the name comes across as slightly edgier than what you've come to expect from the GA, admittedly that is by design.

While the Green Alliance will remain intact as the PR arm of our organization, the Naked Bullfrog is intended to act as: 1) a shared marketing co-op for eco-superior businesses across New England; and 2) an interactive mobile platform for users to find and refer businesses that get "it" -- in this case "it" being the ability to turn a profit while pushing the needle on sustainability.

In order for this venture to succeed, we will no doubt need all the support we can muster in terms of karma, word-spreading and, most importantly, engagement.

To that end, we will soon be announcing a series of launch parties to offer more details on the concept and how you can be involved.

Until then, we'd like to take a moment to thank these unsung heroes on what has truly been a team effort:  Magnifico Design , Bridget Sprague and BOWST

Allison Williams, Founder of Turnip the Beet in Dover
Farm fresh organic on the go at Turnip the Beet

Chef, wife and mother of three, Allison Williams has parlayed a passion for cooking and a dramatic life change into Turnip the Beet, a venture that redefines the meaning of takeout with farm-to-fork meals to go.

In less than a year, Williams has developed a devoted clientele for her "Clean Eating" meals loaded with organic ingredients from local farms in the Seacoast region.

A former retail expert in the fashion industry, she had a life-altering experience when she undertook the Whole30 diet makeover and cleanse - a program that proponents say counteracts the unhealthy drawbacks of grain, sugar and dairy products.

Williams said that for years she had felt a consistent energy drain as she gained weight and suffered from frequent heartburn. Her new diet changed all that.

Priscilla Lane-Rondeau owner of the 900 Degrees restaurants
900 Degrees Coming to Portsmouth!

Priscilla Lane-Rondeau is looking forward to opening a new restaurant while building on the sustainability practices that have become a hallmark of her brand.

Lane-Rondeau, owner of 900 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, said she hopes to finalize paperwork soon to open a new restaurant in Portsmouth by the end of the year to join her locations in Manchester and Epping. The new location in Portsmouth will likely be located along Lafayette Road, away from the crowded restaurant scene in downtown Portsmouth. Equally important, the new Portsmouth location will have enough space to add composting to her green legacy.

team up on Energy Efficient
Apartment Complex

Residents of a recently opened luxury apartment complex in Exeter, NH will soon be recognizing the benefits of lower energy costs, thanks to the collaboration of two local contractors, Chinburg Properties and the Green Cocoon. According to Geoff Spitzer, senior project manager for Chinburg Properties, the Chestnut Street project sets itself apart from other multi-unit complexes by attaining the EPA's coveted ENERGY STAR rating.

"It's one of the few apartment complexes in New Hampshire to achieve the rating, and the first ENERGY STAR certification for us," Spitzer said. As demand continues to rise for properties that embrace sustainability attributes, "reducing the energy use of a building has become a no brainer."
Greener Pastures Ahead with Shifting Age Dynamic in U.S.

Of all the over-used words in our daily lexicon, "millennials" is perhaps the most irritating because of its gross generalization of the thoughts and behaviors of over 80 million people in the United States (one-quarter of the nation's population). That said, this grouping of 18 to 34 year-olds represent the largest cohort of today's American public who will shape the economic landscape of our times, long after Baby Boomers have retired to God's green pastures.

So beyond all the daily punditry that epitomizes this year's train wreck of an election cycle and how best the country should be governed moving forward, one question still looms large: is the shift to clean technology a priority for a younger generation of homeowners and policymakers?

Dover Brewery Raises a Glass to Community

The 7th Settlement brewery offers many choices of handcrafted beer and food in Dover, but most of it all it offers a lesson in top-to-bottom sustainability.

Founded by David Boynton and Josh Henry, 7th Settlement opened its doors in November 2013. The journey was almost a full decade in the making as the former home brew devotees wanted to combine the best of microbrew quality with a local farm-to-table focus. One of those goals was to revive the importance of local pubs to their community (the company name pays homage to Dover's status as the country's seventh-oldest continuous settlement and oldest in New Hampshire).

Emerald Lush, An Organic Approach to Adaptive Lawn Care

When Rye, New Hampshire, resident Ann Parziale first decided to take a chemical-free approach to caring for her lawn, climate change was hardly among the top reasons for doing so.
"We are serious vegetable and flower gardeners, but we had neglected our lawn for many years," Parziale explains. "It had deteriorated to the point that it was pretty ugly. Also, we had a healthy grub population that turned into Japanese beetles, which proceeded to eat my flowers and some vegetable leaves."

It was time to call in a professional, but Parziale was loathe to introduce chemicals that would upset the natural ecosystem she and her husband had worked so hard to cultivate in their gardens. "One thing I've learned over the years is that nothing exists in isolation," says Parziale, whose property abuts nearby Berry Brook. "The chemicals don't stop at the lawn's edge and say, 'Hey, we're not wanted in the vegetable patch.' What we put on our lawns and gardens affects not just the soil, but all the local inhabitants including the birds that eat the worms, grubs, and insects."
